Gelation of degalactosylated xyloglucan from nano to macroscopic scale

Partially degalactosylated xyloglucans are able to form thermo-reversible gels in aqueous solution at physiological temperature. This property makes them very promising materials for tissue engineering. Moreover, due to a highly branched, hydroxyl group-rich molecular structure, xyloglucans are particularly interesting for manufacturing of micro/nanoparticles to be used as nano-scalar delivery devices of active ingredients in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations. The invention relates to gel compositions comprising pharmaceutical active ingredients. The composition comprises xyloglucan at concentration between 0.1% and 10.0% by total weight of the composition, together with a primary alcohol at a concentration between 20.0 and 50.0% by total weight of the composition. The invention also describes a process for the preparation of the composition and its use in the treatment of pathologies wherein a controlled release of the active principle is useful.
