A Scanning Technique to Measure Regional Cerebral Blood Flow and Oxyhemoglobin Level
2001
OBJECTIVE: The application of a laser scanning technique to measure regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) and tissue hemoglobin oxygenation (HbO 2 ) using the rat closed cranial window preparation is described. METHODS: Twenty-nine male Wistar rats were used to consecutively measure local CBF by laser Doppler flowmetry and tissue HbO 2 by a microspectrophotometric method at multiple corresponding cortical locations. The scanning technique used a computer-controlled micromanipulator. Data from three experimental models are presented: the whisker stimulation model, the ischemia-reperfusion model, and the sinus-vein thrombosis model. Sequential changes in local CBF and HbO 2 data before, during, …
Periodontal Treatment with an Er:YAG Laser or Scaling and Root Planing. A 2-Year Follow-Up Split-Mouth Study
2003
Non-surgical periodontal treatment with an Er:YAG laser has been shown to result in significant clinical attachment level gain; however, clinical results have not been established on a long-term basis following Er:YAG laser treatment. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to present the 2-year results following non-surgical periodontal treatment with an Er:YAG laser or scaling and root planing.Twenty patients with moderate to advanced periodontal destruction were treated under local anesthesia, and the quadrants were randomly allocated in a split-mouth design to either 1) Er:YAG laser (ERL) using an energy level of 160 mJ/pulse and 10 Hz, or 2) scaling and root planing (SRP) using han…
Er:YAG laser treatment in supportive periodontal therapy.
2012
To assess clinical and microbiological outcomes of an Er:YAG laser in comparison with sonic debridement in the treatment of persistent periodontal pockets in a prospective randomized controlled multicentre study design.A total of 78 patients in supportive periodontal therapy with two residual pockets were included, 58 were available for the whole follow-up period. Root surfaces were instrumented either with a sonic scaler (Sonicflex(®) 2003 L) or with an Er:YAG laser (KEY Laser(®) 3). Clinical attachment levels (CAL), Probing depths (PD), Plaque control record (PCR) and Bleeding on probing (BOP) were assessed at baseline, 13 and 26 weeks after treatment. In addition, microbiological analysi…
Le storytelling dans la communication touristique d'un pays : L'exemple de l'Ecosse
2015
A travel involves money, time and imagination. It plays a significant role in the creation of the tourists’ identities. Theoretically, touristic communication consists of an organization that formulates a message and an audience, who interprets it, with different motivations but at least an interest. This enunciative relation has twists and turns: perceptions, emotions, influences affect the message and change its intended meaning. The people who advertise the destination must consider these gaps in interpretation to incite potential tourists to discover a place. There is a category of communication called “storytelling”, especially with the contribution of local people, which presents test…
Synthesis of yttrium aluminum garnet nanoparticles in confined environment II: Role of the thermal treatment on the composition and microstructural e…
2017
Abstract Nanoparticles of yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG, Y 3 Al 5 O 12 ) have been obtained by thermal treatments, at several temperature in the range 400–950 °C, of the precursors synthetized via co-precipitation in water in oil microemulsion. The obtained nanoparticles have been characterized by means of X-ray Diffraction and Transmission Electron Microscopy coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) and Select Area Electron Diffraction (SAED). Results show the phase evolution occurring to obtain not aggregated nanoparticles of YAG phase. A possible growth mechanism of YAG nanoparticles is discussed on the basis of observed particle microstructure and morphology. The results i…
Study of magnesium and aluminum alloys absorption coefficient during Nd:YAG laser interaction
2007
International audience; In laser processes, the absorption factor of laser Nd:YAG by metals plays a very important role. In order to model laser welding, we need to know its evolution during the process. The theoretical calculation does not enable the prediction of the absorption factor in the case of a keyhole mode. It is difficult to predict the effect of plasma and recoil pressure on the shape of the keyhole. In this paper, an integrating sphere is used to determine the absorption factor during the laser process, which is carried out on two types of magnesium alloys (WE43 and RZ5) and an aluminum alloy. We obtain the evolution in time of the absorption factor according to different steps…
Growth of titanium oxynitride layers by short pulsed Nd:YAG laser treatment of Ti plates: Influence of the cumulated laser fluence.
2009
International audience; Titanium oxynitride layerswere formed by surface laser treatment of Ti plates in air using a Nd:YAG laser source of short pulse duration about 5 ns. The cumulated laser fluence was varied in the 100–1200 J cm2 range and its influence on the composition and the structure of the formed layers was studied by different characterization techniques providing physico-chemical and structural information. It was shown that the laser treatment induces the insertion of light elements as O, N and C in the formed layer with the amount increasing with the laser fluence. The in-depth composition of the layers and the co-existence of different phases were also studied. The way in wh…
Synthesis of yttrium aluminum garnet nanoparticles in confined environment III: Cerium doping effect
2018
Abstract Cerium yttrium aluminum garnet (Ce:YAG, CexY3-xAl5O12) nanoparticles doped with different cerium amount were obtained by calcining the precursors synthesized via co-precipitation in w/o microemulsion for 1 h at 900 °C. The structural and morphological properties were investigated by using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) in order to investigate the effect of doping level on formation and microstructure of obtained nanoparticles. It was found that the composition of the final products strongly depends on the concentration of cerium. The formation of single YAG phase …
Physical-mechanical effects of Nd:YAG laser on the surface of sound dental enamel.
1993
Human dental enamel samples were irradiated using a 5 kHz Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser. An increase in Knoop microhardness and modification of the membrane permselectivity were detached. These results and the changes observed by SEM, can be connected with the fusion of the enamel surface.
The effect of surface treatment with Er: YAG laser on shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets to fiber-reinforced composite
2014
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effect of surface treatment with Er:YAG laser on shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets to fiber-reinforced composite (FRC). Study Design: Ninety human premolars were randomly divided into six groups of 15. FRC bars were bonded to the teeth with a flowable composite (FC) and then underwent following treatments. In group 1 no further treatment was performed. In group 2 the FRC surfaces were covered by FC. An Er:YAG laser was employed to treat FRCs in groups 3 ( 200 mJ/10 Hz) and 4 (300 mJ/15 Hz). The FRC strips in groups 5 and 6 were first covered by FC and then irradiated with Er:YAG laser at 200 mJ/10 Hz (group 5) or 300 mJ/15 Hz (…
