Climate variability and agriculture in Italy: a stochastic frontier analysis at the regional level

In the next future, climate change effects will represent a challenge for Europe and the Mediterranean area. These will have to cope with a rapid increase in climate variability. Although many economic sectors may be affected, agriculture is the most susceptible as climate heavily affects crop production trends, yield variability and the availability of areas suitable for cultivation. ESR response to gamma-rays of alanine pellets containing B(OH)3 or Gd2O3.

ESR response to gamma-irradiation (1-50 Gy) of blends containing alanine and either B(OH)(3) or Gd(2)O(3) is reported. The sensitivity of the alanine--B(OH)(3) blend is comparable to the sensitivity of pure alanine, although its lowest detectable dose, LDD, is smaller ( approximately 1.3 Gy) than that of pure alanine ( approximately 2.9 Gy). Alanine with Gd(2)O(3) is about two times more sensitive than pure alanine, and its LDD is 0.8 Gy. The better sensitivity and LDD are probably due to the high atomic number (Z=64) of gadolinium, which enhances the interaction probability with photons and, consequently, the radical yield. Abstract The reactivity of several hydroxy selenides bearing an ethereal chain with catalytic amounts of perchloric acid in dichloromethane was investigated. Results showed that the position of the oxygen atom with respect to the seleniranium ring was crucial in order to get a good yield of the cyclized product. The factors on which yields of the 5- endo cyclization of the seleniranium ions depend were analysed by ab initio (HF/3-21G ∗ ) studies. An explanation of the different coordinating ability, towards the positively charged selenium atom, of the allylic OMe and homoallylic OH-2 groups was given.

Glass-forming derivatives of 2-cyano-2-(4H-pyran-4-ylidene) acetate for light-amplification systems

Abstract A series of 2-cyano-2-(4H-pyran-4-ylidene) acetate derivatives with triphenyl and 9H-carbazole moieties were synthesized and investigated, mostly for potential applications in organic solid state lasers. Synthesized compounds show remarkable amorphous film formation ability, tunable thermal properties (thermal stability varies from 190 °C to 387 °C and glass transition temperature from 94 °C up to 141 °C) with light absorption from 400 nm to 600 nm and photoluminescence from 600 nm up to 800 nm. Amplified spontaneous emission of pyranyliden derivatives in PVK matrix

One of the well-known red light emitting laser dyes is 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(4-dimethylaminostyryl)-4Hpyran ( DCM ). Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) has been widely investigated of DCM molecules or its derivatives in polymer or low molecular weight matrix. The main issue for these molecules is aggregation which limits doping concentration in matrix. Lowest ASE threshold values within concentration range of 2 and 4 wt% were obtained. During the last two decades, small organic molecules have been widely studied for potential applications in organic solid-state lasers due to low-cost production, simple processing possibility and physical property tuning ability through chemical structure synthetic modifications. Investigation into the reaction of (t-BuC5H4)2Nb(η2-Te2)H with CH3Li: Hydride abstraction versus telluride methylation

Abstract The reaction of [ Cp 2 ′ Nb ( Te 2 ) H ] ( 1 ) (Cp′ =  t -BuC 5 H 4 ) with CH 3 Li in THF was examined by variable temperature 1 H NMR, ESR and mass spectroscopic means. From these methods it is evident that the diamagnetic compounds [ Cp 2 ′ NbH 2 ( TeCH 3 ) ] ( 2 ) and [ Cp 2 ′ Nb ( Te ) CH 3 ] ( 3 ) as well as the paramagnetic compound [ Cp 2 ′ Nb ( TeCH 3 ) 2 ] ( 4 ) form simultaneously. In the subsequent reaction of the intermediate solution with [Co 2 (CO) 8 ] compound 4 was consumed and the compound [ Cp 2 ′ Nb ( μ - TeCH 3 ) 2 Co(CO) 2 ] ( 5 ) formed in good yield.
