Tarkastelen pro gradu -tutkielmassani kunnan nimen merkitystä kunnan asukkaille. Tarkoituksenani on syventää ymmärrystä siitä, miksi kunnan nimi aiheuttaa paljon keskustelua kuntaliitoksen toteuttamisen aikana. Tutkielmaani varten keräsin Kouvolan seudun uuden kunnan nimeä käsitteleviä tekstiviestikommentteja Kouvolan Sanomien Napakat-mielipidepalstalta. Viestien analysoinnissa käytin lähilukua sekä tulkitsevaa diskurssianalyysia. Teoreettisena viitekehyksenä tutkielmassani toimivat kuntasamaistumisen ja psykologisen omistajuuden käsitteet.
