Secure attachment and individual protective factors against internalized homophobia

This article explores the relationship between internalized homophobia and three main variables: attachment to mother, father, and peers; ego resiliency; and self-esteem. We recruited 51 Italian gay men and 54 lesbian women aged between 18 and 30, and asked them to complete self-report measures. The results showed that internalized homophobia negatively correlated with the security of attachment to father and self-esteem. On the other hand, no significant association was found between ego resiliency and internalized homophobia. The roll out of Anti-Retroviral Therapy across Sub-Saharan Africa has given rise to a new generation of adolescents that previously would not have survived into their teen years. The aim of this research is to give voice to these young people, specifically HIV positive students, in the rural, post-conflict area of Katakwi, Uganda. Este trabajo aborda el análisis de los discursos de jóvenes que han tenido dificultades en su itinerario educativo y que han participado en “itinerarios de segunda oportunidad”. A partir de entrevistas a jóvenes, pretendemos aproximarnos a los argumentos desde los que dan sentido a sus itinerarios académicos y a las decisiones a las que se han enfrentado. Estos argumentos muestran fuertes implicaciones de la posición social de los actores, y están influidos por agentes de la institución educativa y familiar.
