The three main religions in Japan being Shintoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism, all three offer its followers different moral perspectives that in Japan meld with each other and the folklore that is dominated by strange creatures and horrific monsters. Bakalaura darbā „Japāņu dēmoni jokai: fenomens mūsdienu Japānā”tiek pētīta jokai jēdziena saistība ar japāņu kultūras identitāti, pieņemot, ka jokai pārstāv japāņu tradicionālo kultūru un tās vērtības. Mērķis ir noskaidrot, kā jokai atšķiras no citiem japāņu mitaloģijas un literāriem tēliem un kāda saikne tiem ir ar japāņu sabiedrību un to kultūras identitāti. Jokai pirmsākumi meklējami jau pirmajos antīkās Japānas literatūras darbos- Ņihonšoki un Kodžiki un tiem ir saikne ar japāņu sabiedrību, to radītāju.
