Measurement of theWZ→ℓνℓℓcross section and limits on anomalous triple gauge couplings inpp¯collisions ats=1.96TeV
2011
We present a new measurement of the WZ -> lvll (l = e, mu) cross section and limits on anomalous triple gauge couplings. Using 4.1 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV, we observe 34 WZ candidate events with an estimated background of 6.0 +/- 0.4 events. We measure the WZ production cross section to be 3.89(-0.90)(+1.07) pb, in good agreement with the standard model prediction. We find no evidence for anomalous WWZ couplings and set 95% C.L. limits on the coupling parameters, -0.077 < lambda(z) < 0.093 and -0.029 < Delta kappa(z) < 0.080 in the HISZ parameterization for a Lambda = 2 TeV form factor scale. These are the best limits to date obtaine…
Electroweak and finite width corrections to top quark decays into transverse and longitudinal $ W $-bosons
2002
We calculate the electroweak and finite width corrections to the decay of an unpolarized top quark into a bottom quark and a $ W $-gauge boson where the helicities of the $ W $ are specified as longitudinal, transverse-plus and transverse-minus. Together with the $ O(\alpha_s) $ corrections these corrections may become relevant for the determination of the mass of the top quark through angular decay measurements.
Helicity fractions of W bosons from top quark decays
2008
The helicity fractions of the W boson from top quark decays have been determined by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron. It is to be expected that the present experimental errors will decrease with larger data samples and in particular with measurements at the LHC. These improvements have to be matched by advances on the theoretical side. In this presentation we present a progress report on the calculation of the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the decay width of the top quark into polarised W bosons.
Search for pair production of heavy top-like quarks decaying to a high-pT W boson and a b quark in the lepton plus jets final state at s=7 TeV with t…
2013
A search is presented for production of a heavy up-type quark (t') together with its antiparticle, assuming a significant branching ratio for subsequent decay into a W boson and a b quark. The search is based on 4.7 fb(-1) of pp collisions root s = 7 TeV recorded in 2011 with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Data are analyzed in the lepton + jets final state, characterized by a high-transverse-momentum isolated electron or muon, large missing transverse momentum and at least three jets. The analysis strategy relies on the substantial boost of the W bosons in the t'(t') over bar signal when m(t') greater than or similar to 400 GeV. No significant excess of events above t…
Massive Spin One and Renormalizable Gauges
2015
For many decades of the last century, physicists were struggling to define consistent (renormalizable and unitarity preserving) models for spin-one massive particles (Proca fields). As we know, this was beautifully achieved by Weinberg, Salam and Glashow in 1967 when they proposed an electroweak unified theory which we now call the Standard Model. The electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism, among other things, generates mass terms for the W and Z bosons, while preserving renormalizability and unitarity. The longitudinal degrees of freedom of the massive spin-one particles are given by the Goldostone bosons. Choosing one gauge or another might seem just a matter of convenience and in most c…
Measurement of the production cross section of jets in association with a Z boson in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
2013
Measurements of the production of jets of particles in association with a Z boson in pp collisions at s√ = 7 TeV are presented, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb[superscript −1] collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Inclusive and differential jet cross sections in Z events, with Z decaying into electron or muon pairs, are measured for jets with transverse momentum p [subscript T] > 30 GeV and rapidity |y| < 4.4. The results are compared to next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations, and to predictions from different Monte Carlo generators based on leading-order and next-to-leading-order matrix elements supplemented by parton sh…
Exclusive radiative decays of W and Z bosons in QCD factorization
2015
We present a detailed theoretical analysis of very rare, exclusive hadronic decays of the electroweak gauge bosons V=W, Z from first principles of QCD. Our main focus is on the radiative decays V->M+gamma, in which M is a pseudoscalar or vector meson. At leading order in an expansion in powers of Lambda_{QCD}/m_V the decay amplitudes can be factorized into convolutions of calculable hard-scattering coefficients with the leading-twist light-cone distribution amplitude of the meson M. Power corrections to the decay rates arise first at order (Lambda_{QCD}/m_V)^2. They can be estimated in terms of higher-twist distribution amplitudes and are predicted to be tiny. We include one-loop O(alpha…
Search for W′ boson production in the W′→tb¯ decay channel
2006
We present a search for the production of a new heavy gauge boson W' that decays to a top quark and a bottom quark. We have analyzed 230 pb(-1) of data collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. No significant excess of events above the standard model expectation is found in any region of the final state invariant mass distribution. We set upper limits on the production cross section of W' bosons times branching ratio to top quarks at the 95% confidence level for several different W, boson masses. We exclude masses between 200 and 610 GeV for a W' boson with standard-model-like couplings, between 200 and 630 GeV for a W, boson wi…
Precision electroweak measurements on the Z resonance
2005
We report on the final electroweak measurements performed with data taken at the Z resonance by the experiments operating at the electron-positron colliders SLC and LEP. The data consist of 17 million Z decays accumulated by the ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL experiments at LEP, and 600 thousand Z decays by the SLD experiment using a polarised beam at SLC. The measurements include cross-sections, forward-backward asymmetries and polarised asymmetries. The mass and width of the Z boson, $\MZ$ and $\GZ$, and its couplings to fermions, for example the $\rho$ parameter and the effective electroweak mixing angle, are precisely measured. The number of light neutrino species is determined to be 2.9840…
