Public Discourse on Human Trafficking in International Issue Arenas

Abstract. The purpose of this study is to better understand how the complex problem of human trafficking is addressed in international debates. How the discussion about human trafficking develops and how it is debated ultimately influences how the decision-making process unfolds. In order to understand the formation of public policy and laws, therefore, it is important to study the debate that occurs prior to decision making. Una aproximación económica a las sociedades musicales

This article is a summary of the first phase of a deeper project which aim is to study the socioeconomic dimension of musical societies. To do so, after having highlighted the importance and significance of musical societies in the Valencian Community, we try to frame their complex organizational and institutional delimitation within the theory of non-profit organizations. By doing so, we are able to make explicit most of the characteristics and functions that define musical societies’ activities. Finally, from the characterization of musical societies as non-assistance multiproductive unities, we offer some descriptive notes about the productive aspects of these societies.
Social capital formation across space: proximity and trust in European regions

An extensive economics and regional science literature has discussed the importance of social capital for economic growth and development. Yet, what social capital is and how it is formed are elusive issues, which require further investigation. Here, we refer to social capital in terms of “civic” capital and “good culture,” as rephrased by Guiso, Sapienza, and Zingales and Tabellini. The accumulation of this kind of capital allows the emerging of regional informal institutions, which may help explaining differences in regional development. La prensa sensacionalista del franquismo colaboró activamente en la pres-cripción de un único modelo de mujer, el de madre y esposa confinada al hogar. El Estado promulgaba leyes que impedían trabajar a las mujeres, la Iglesia imponía sus preceptos morales y la educación segregaba los currículos de las niñas. A su vez, los medios de comunicación trasladaban a la opinión pública la teoría de la diferencia sexual.
