Characterization and utilization of MFI zeolites and MCM-41 materials for gaseous pollutant adsorption

Physisorption of n-hexane, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, carbon and nitrogen oxides on a microporous ZSM-5 (Si/Al=339) zeolite and an amorphous mesoporous MCM-41 (Si/Al=∞) sample was examined by isothermal thermogravimetry, manometry and calorimetry to evaluate the feasibility of using these porous materials for gaseous pollutant adsorption at room temperature. The adsorbents showed very interesting adsorption properties for hydrocarbons. ZSM-5 exhibited the strongest adsorption affinity and MCM-41 showed the largest adsorption capacity. Gravimetric and FTIR study of the interaction of tetramethylethylene on a MFI zeolite

The adsorption of tetramethylethylene on a high siliceous ZSM-5 zeolite was performed by thermogravimetry, in situ FTIR spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulation. Sorption and spectroscopic data were analysed as a function of loading and compared with molecular dynamics simulated results to characterize the adsorption process. The isotherm at 298 K does not show any deviation from the type I behaviour. The presence of admolecules in micropores does not or weakly affect zeolite framework vibration bands but induces an additional band at around 1715 cm−1 mainly due to a contribution of the microporous surface of the adsorbent. Is the formation of a zeolite from a dry powder via a gas phase transport process possible?

Abstract ZSM-5 was synthesized by four methods with a gradually decreasing water content ending in a reaction mixture with absolutely dry reagents in the form of a powder in the complete absence of a solution phase. Amorphous precursors obtained by drying SiO2·A2O3 gels at 650°C were transformed into zeolites in the presence of dried NH4F and TPABr. Some water is probably formed as a reaction product, but the maximum water pressure is appreciably below the saturation pressure under the given reaction conditions. D2 and H2 adsorption capacity and selectivity in CHA zeolites: Effect of Si/Al ratio, cationic composition and temperature

International audience; The work deals with the effect of composition of CHA zeolites on the adsorption and separation of H2 and D2 under cryogenic temperatures. In the first part of this work the effect of Si/Al ratio and cationic composition on single gas adsorption of H2 and D2 was studied at 77.4 K. It was found that the adsorption capacities increase with Al content up to Si/Al = 2.1. Unexpectedly, Na-CHA zeolite with the highest Al content (Si/Al = 1.1) adsorbs only negligible amount because of the collapse of the zeolite structure upon dehydration at 400°C. Adsorption of hydrogen isotopes in the zeolite NaX: Experiments and simulations

Abstract Among the different methods to separate hydrogen isotopes one is based on the physisorption at low temperature (below 100 K) where quantum effects induce a particular behavior. In the present work, we study the adsorption of single H 2 and D 2 on the zeolite NaX by combining experiments (manometry) from 30 to 150 K and molecular dynamics simulations at 40 and 77 K. Simulations also include the adsorption analysis for T 2 . Adsorption on NaX membranes is simulated and quantum corrections are introduced by using the well-known Feynman–Hibbs approach into the interaction potentials. Microporous volume and external surface of Y zeolites accessible to p-xylene and m-xylene

Abstract Isothermal adsorption of p-xylene and m-xylene on NaY, KY and BaY zeolites was studied by thermogravimetry at 25°C. Adsorption isotherms showed type H4 hysteresis associated with a xylenes adsorption process activated by the pressure. Experimental data were analysed with the t-method to distinguish the amounts of xylene adsorbed in the α-cages and on the external surface of crystallites. Results were compared with those previously achieved by calorimetry. Whatever may be the isomer and the Y zeolite, the adsorption capacity of α-cages at 25 °C is equal to 3.5 molecule α−1. IM-17: a new zeolitic material, synthesis and structure elucidation from electron diffraction ADT data and Rietveld analysis

International audience; The synthesis and the structure of IM-17, a new germanosilicate with a novel zeolitic topology, prepared hydrothermally with decamethonium as the organic structure directing agent, are reported. The structure of calcined and partially rehydrated IM-17 of chemical formula per unit cell |(H2O)14.4|[Si136.50Ge39.50O352] was solved ab initio using electron diffraction ADT data in the acentric Amm2 (setting Cm2m) space group and refined by the Rietveld method. This new zeolite framework type contains a 3D pore system made of intersecting 12, 10 and 8-ring channels.

PVC silver zeolite composites with antimicrobial properties

Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) composites containing increasing amounts (2-20%, w/w) of silver zeolite (SZ) were prepared by melt mixing and characterized by thermal, mechanical and rheological analyses. The addition of large amount of SZ did not influence the processability and the formability of the composites, if compared to neat plasticized PVC. The antibacterial activity of PVC SZ composites was tested on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis and resulted promising both in culture broth and on agar plate and also in sterile urine seeded with these strains, for simulation purposes.
