The influence study of the number of substituted heteroaryls at the non-K region of pyrene structure on the photophysical properties based on the exa…
2022
The study of the photophysical properties (thermal - thermogravimetric analysis and optical - absorption, emission in the solution and in powder, quantum efficiency of emission and efficient fluorescence lifetime in the solution) with the focus on the influence of the number of substituted 1-decyl-1H-1,2,3-triazole groups at the non-K region of pyrene structure. To the best of our knowledge, the investigation of the impact of the number of heteroaryl groups at the non-K region of pyrene is reported for the first time. The obtained results for monosubstituted derivative (1) were compared to di- (2, 3) and tetra- (4) analogues previously reported by us in the literature. In addition, theoreti…

Synthesis, Reactivity, Biological Activity and Applications of Fluorinated Oxadiazoles and Thiadiazoles
2014
A literature survey of the chemistry of fluorinated oxadiazoles and thiadiazoles is presented. The core part on synthetic procedures is given by type of heterocycle and includes recent developments up to the end of 2012. Reactivity is discussed when induced by the presence of the fluorinated moiety. Selected examples of bioactive compounds and applications are illustrated.
Phenothiazine-based dyes for efficient dye-sensitized solar cells
2016
As an emerging photovoltaic technology, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have attracted a great deal of academic and industrial interest due to their reasonably high power conversion efficiency, low material cost and facile fabrication process. Metal-free organic dyes, as one of the key components of DSSCs, play a pivotal role in light harvesting and electron injection. Among the various species of organic dyes, easily tunable 10H-phenothiazine-based dyes hold a large proportion. The electron-rich nitrogen and sulfur atoms render 10H-phenothiazine a stronger donor character than other amines, even better than triphenylamine, tetrahydroquinoline, carbazole and iminodibenzyl. On the other h…
Human fascioliasis in Argentina: retrospective overview, critical analysis and baseline for future research
2010
Abstract In Argentina, human fascioliasis has never been adequately analysed, although having a physiography, climate, animal prevalences and lymnaeids similar to those of countries where the disease is endemic such as Bolivia, Peru and Chile. We performed a literature search identifying 58 reports accounting for 619 cases, involving 13 provinces, their majority (97.7%) from high altitudes, in central mountainous areas and Andean valleys, concentrated in Cordoba (430 cases), Catamarca (73), San Luis (29) and Mendoza (28), the remaining provinces being rarely affected. This distribution does not fit that of animal fascioliasis. Certain aspects (higher prevalence in females in a local survey,…
Hydrogen bonding versus π-stacking in ferromagnetic interactions. Studies on a copper triazolopyridine complex
2013
Magnetic susceptibility measurements show weak ferromagnetic exchange between the copper(II) ions of a novel triazolopyridine derivative [Cu(TPT)(H2O)2(BF4)](BF4)·2H2O (TPT = 3-{6-([1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrid-3-yl)-2-pyridyl}-[1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyridine). Mononuclear [Cu(TPT)(H2O)2(BF4)]+ entities are connected through O–H⋯F, C–H⋯F and π⋯π interactions to give a 3D framework. Ferromagnetic properties are discussed on the basis of the interactions network.
Ćwok, kiep i frajer, czyli postać głupiego męża we francuskiej prozie realistycznej i naturalistycznej
2017
The paper discusses the theme of a stupid husband in three texts of French Realism and Naturalism: a novel by Gustave Flaubert and two short stories by Emile Zola and Guy de Maupassant. The main reference for the analysis is a paper by Stefan Symotiuk who divides the category of “fools” into several subcategories, according to reasons and signs of their stupidity. In agreement with Symotiuk’s thought, Flaubert’s Charles Bovary can be considered as a “blockhead”, dull but always glad with himself; Zola’s Mr Chabre is a “dolt”, heavily thinking and likely to hoax; finally, Maupassant’s Mr Lantin is a “dupe”, easily cheated because unable to see things as they are. All the three characters can…
Antagonistic effects of fluconazole and 5-fluorocytosine on candidacidal action of amphotericin B in human serum
1994
This study addressed the effects of fluconazole and 5-fluorocytosine on the candidacidal activity of amphotericin B in the presence of human serum. A Candida albicans isolate that was susceptible to all three agents according to standard testing procedures was employed. Fungicidal activity was estimated by using a flow cytometric procedure that exploited the fact that yeast cells killed by amphotericin B diminish in size and take up propidium iodide. The following findings were made. (i) Fluconazole and 5-fluorocytosine each failed to inhibit pseudohyphal formation and cell aggregation even when applied at 10 and 50 micrograms/ml, respectively, for up to 10 h. Hence, these agents were not f…
Effects of the benzodiazepine receptor agonist midazolam and antagonist flumazenil on 5-hydroxytryptamine release from guinea-pig intestine in vitro
1990
Isolated segments of the guinea-pig small intestine and the guinea-pig stomach were vascularly perfused and the release of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid into the portal venous effluent determined by high pressure liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection. Test substances were applied intraarterially. The benzodiazepine receptor agonist, midazolam, concentration-dependently increased (by 58%, at 1 nmol/l) and decreased (by 32%, at 100 nmol/l) the release of 5-HT from small intestine preparations. Both effects were blocked by the benzodiazepine receptor antagonist flumazenil (10 nmol/l) The stimulatory effect of midazolam was also abolished in the presen…
Phasor-FLIM analysis of Thioflavin T self-quenching in Concanavalin amyloid fibrils
2020
The formation of amyloid structures has traditionally been related to human neurodegenerative pathologies and, in recent years, the interest in these highly stable nanostructures was extended to biomaterial sciences. A common method to monitor amyloid growth is the analysis of Thioflavin T fluorescence. The use of this highly selective dye, diffused worldwide, allows mechanistic studies of supramolecular assemblies also giving back important insight on the structure of these aggregates. Here we present experimental evidence of self-quenching effect of Thioflavin T in presence of amyloid fibrils. A significant reduction of fluorescence lifetime of this dye which is not related to the propert…
