Pesticide residues in oranges from Valencia (Spain)

One hundred and fifty citrus samples from an agricultural co-operative of the Valencian Community (Spain) were analysed for pre- and post-harvest pesticide residues using high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography. Among the residues from post-harvest treatments, imazalil was detected in 112 (74.7%) samples at a mean level of 1.2 mg/kg, thiabendazole in 21 (14.0%) samples at a mean level of 0.47 mg/kg and carbendazim in 5 (3.3%) samples at a mean level of 1.05 mg/kg. Copper compounds, widely used to control plant-pathogenic bacteria, have traditionally been employed against fire blight, caused by Erwinia amylovora. However, recent studies have shown that some phytopathogenic bacteria enter into the viable-but-nonculturable (VBNC) state in the presence of copper. A new class of solution processable dendrimers based on cyclic phosphazene (CP) cores have been prepared and used as host materials for blue and green organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). The dendrimers are prepared in high yield from minimal step reactions, are soluble in common solvents for solution processing, are amorphous, and have excellent thermal properties necessary for application in OLEDs. OLED efficiencies of 10.3 cd/A (4.2 Im/W) and 35.3 cd/A (33.5 Im/W) were achieved using commercially available Flrpic and Ir(mppy) 3 as blue and green phosphorescent emitters, respectively. Often, in the search for a highly defined scientific phenomenon, a different one becomes apparent. This was also the case of this work, in the scope of which we planned to search for metal-enhanced, novel antibacterial/ antifungal compounds. Instead, we denied the existence of such and revealed the details of the bioinorganic chemistry of Zn(II)-alloferon complexes. Zinc(II) complexes of alloferon 1 and 2, ligands with a sequential difference of one amino acid only, show a substantially different coordination pattern at physiological pH. Solvent directs the dimensionality of Cu-dicyanoimidazoles

In this paper, we report one-pot reactions of the same reactants 4,5-dicyanoimidazole and CuI in different solvents. In pure MeCN, the reaction resulted in previously reported MOF structure [Cu(4,5-dicyanoimidazole)]n.(MeCN)0.5n (1). On the other hand, when MeCN/MeOH solvent mixture was used, a new coordination polymer [Cu(4,5-dicyanoimidazole)(MeCN)(CuI)]n (2) was formed. The crystallization yielded very different structures as determined by X-ray crystallography. In 1, the solvent molecule acetonitrile occupies the MOF pores via weak interactions, but in 2 it is coordinated to the metal center.
