Saturated absorption spectroscopy: elimination of crossover resonances by use of a nanocell

It is demonstrated that velocity selective optical pumping/saturation resonances of reduced absorption in a Rb vapor nanocell with thickness \textit{L=} $\lambda $, 2$\lambda $, and 3$\lambda $ (resonant wavelength $\lambda $ = 780 nm) allow the complete elimination of crossover (CO) resonances. We observe well pronounced resonances corresponding to the F$_{g}=3$ $\to $ F$_{e}=2,3,4$ hyperfine transitions of the $^{85}$Rb D$_{2}$ line with linewidths close to the natural width. A small CO resonance located midway between F$_{g}=3$ $\to $ F$_{e}=3$ and F$_{g}=3$ $\to$ F$_{e}=4$ transitions appears only for \textit{L} = 4$\lambda $. Deconvolution of Multiple Spectral Lines Shapes by Means of Tikhonov’s Regularization Method

We present deconvolution of multiple narrow Zeeman split Hg lines, emitted from Hg/Xe micro-size capillary and measured by the Fourier Transform spectrometer. The ill-posed inverse problem was solved using the Tikhonov& rsquo;s regularization method.
Optical diagnostic method for benzene detection in air

In this paper we show our first results of research for creation a detector for benzene vapor and possibly other volatile organic compounds detection in air based on Zeeman atomic absorption technique. First the detailed study of benzene absorption spectra with high resolution spectrometer Jobin-Yvon 1000M was done. The absorption spectra of benzene were registered in the spectral range from 200-900 nm. More detailed analysis was done for the 240 – 260 nm spectral range to test a possibility to detect benzene by means of emission line of 254 nm of mercury.

Abstract The irreducible tensor operator technique in R3 group is applied to the problem of kinetic exchange between transition metal ions possessing orbitally degenerate ground states in the local octahedral surrounding. Along with the effective exchange Hamiltonian, the related interactions (low-symmetry crystal field terms, Coulomb interaction between unfilled electronic shells, spin–orbit coupling and Zeeman interaction) are also taken into account within a unified computational scheme. Critical review of the atomic spectrometric analysis of arsenic in foods

The literature on the determination of arsenic in foods by atomic spectroscopy involving hydride generation, platform furnace Zeeman and inductively coupled plasma has been critically reviewed. Hydride generation has been largely displaced as a powerful tool by platform furnace Zeeman, using the STPF (stabilized temperature platform furnace) concept for the control of interferences. Inductively coupled plasma with conventional pneumatic nebulization has been little used. An alternative is to employ hydride generation-ICP with extraction of the arsenic in an organic phase. In this work we present measurement and results of the deconvolution of the Hg 253.7 nm spectral line shapes, emitted from the mercury isotope high-frequency electrodeless discharge lamps, made at the Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy for the use in Zeeman Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. The emission line profiles of 254 nm Hg resonance line have been measured by means of a Zeeman scanning spectrometer at the mercury cold spot temperature value at 20 C. Recently it was shown that "λ-Zeeman Technique" (λ-ZT) is a convenient tool to study individual transitions between the Zeeman sublevels of hyperfine levels in an external magnetic field. λ-ZT is based on resonant transmission spectrum of nanometric thin cell (NTC) of thickness L = λ, where λ is the resonant wavelength 794 nm for Rb D1 line. Narrow velocity selective optical pumping (VSOP) resonances in the transmission spectrum of the NTC are split into several components in a magnetic field. It has been investigated the D1 line transitions of 39K atoms in external magnetic fields using nanocells for the cases of sigma+ and pi polarizations of laser radiation. For the first time it is demonstrated the decoupling of electronic total angular momentum J and nuclear momentum I (complete hyperfine Paschen-Back regime) in external magnetic field. For 39K the decoupling takes place at B >> 165 G. In the case of linear polarization it is shown that for B > 400 G the transmission spectrum consists of 2 groups of transitions and each group contains of one so-called "Guiding transition" (GT). Formation of narrow optical resonances in thin atomic vapor layers of Cs, Rb, K and applications.

This thesis presents the study of coherent light interaction with a sub-wavelength atomic alkali vapor layer confined in a nano-cell and applications for the formation of narrow optical resonances.We develop a theoretical model describing the resonant interaction of the laser light with the thin alkali vapor layer in the presence of an external static magnetic field. We show that due to a transient regime of interaction, only slow atoms contribute to the signal and their transmission spectrum is essentially Doppler-free.
