Abstract Background: The early production of distinct cytokines by epidermal cells (ECs) in response to antigen exposure may govern the development of T H1 -like immune responses, such as contact sensitivity, or T H2 -like immune responses, such as IgE-dependent allergies of the immediate type, depending on the type of antigen. Abstract Benzene and 13 potential metabolites were investigated for genotoxicity in Salmonella typhimurium and V79 Chinese hamster cells. In the presence of NADPH-fortified hepatic postmitochondrial fraction (S9 mix), benzene reverted his- S. typhimurium strains. The effect was strongest in strain TA1535. Among the potential metabolites, only the trans-1,2-dihydrodiol, in the presence of S9 mix, and the diol epoxides, in the presence and absence of S9 mix, proved mutagenic in this strain. The anti-diol epoxide was more potent than the syn-diastereomer. Both enantiomers of the anti-diastereomer showed similar activities. Measurements of total ozone amount over Badajoz (Southwestern Spain) by means of a GUV multiband radiometer

This paper presents the first measurements of total ozone amount performed at the radiometric station of Badajoz (Spain) by means of a multichannel radiometer GUV-2511. The retrieval of total ozone amount from GUV measurements of solar ultraviolet irradiance is performed with the support of look-up tables calculated using the SBDART radiation transfer code. This methodology is based on the different absorption by ozone suffered by the radiation at two certain near wavelengths. In this case the pair 305, 340 nm was chosen because of its better performance than the pair 305, 320 nm. Lettura interpretativa di due significativi quartieri della periferia di Palermo: Borgo Ulivia e lo ZEN. Il primo quartiere, situato a sud del centro storico si trova il quartiere, è compreso tra la circonvallazione, il tracciato del fiume Oreto e la via Villagrazia. Predominant pathogenic role of tumor necrosis factor in experimental colitis in mice

Antibodies to tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha have been recently proposed as effective treatment for patients with Crohn's disease. Here, we analyze the functional role of TNF-alpha in a mouse model of chronic intestinal inflammation induced by the hapten reagent 2,4,6,-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) that mimics some characteristics of Crohn's disease in humans. Macrophage-enriched lamina propria (LP) mononuclear cells from mice with TNBS-induced colitis produced 10-30-fold higher levels of TNF-alpha mRNA and protein than cells from control mice.
