Cytoprotective effects of the antioxidant phytochemical indicaxanthin in beta-thalassemia red blood cells

Antioxidant phytochemicals are investigated as novel treatments for supportive therapy in beta-thalassemia. The dietary indicaxanthin was assessed for its protective effects on human beta-thalassemic RBCs submitted in vitro to oxidative haemolysis by cumene hydroperoxide. Indicaxanthin at 1.0-10 microM enhanced the resistance to haemolysis dose-dependently. In addition, it prevented lipid and haemoglobin (Hb) oxidation, and retarded vitamin E and GSH depletion. After ex vivo spiking of blood from thalassemia patients with indicaxanthin, the phytochemical was recovered in the soluble cell compartment of the RBCs. Jednym z obowiązków w prawie ubezpieczeń społecznych jest opłacanie składek na ubezpieczenia społeczne. Ustawodawca przewidział, że w praktyce może się zdarzyć, że płatnik z różnych powodów nie będzie mógł uiścić należności składkowych. Wobec tego wprowadził określone mechanizmy, które mają ułatwić realizację tego obowiązku. Why Enforcing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is Morally Questionable

Docketed literature on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) exhibits heated contentions on the nature of business-society relations. This paper seeks to explore this contentious issue in the light of contemporary incorporation of CSR in business strategic plans. It notes that enforcing CSR on business might lead to its manipulation to advance corporate organisations’ purely self-interested ends rather than pursuing intrinsic philanthropic activities for the good of society. An insight into the undesirable consequences of enforcing CSR is given. Probing the origin of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays with neutrinos in the EeV energy range using the Pierre Auger Observatory

Neutrinos with energies above 1017 eV are detectable with the Surface Detector Array of the Pierre Auger Observatory. The identification is efficiently performed for neutrinos of all flavors interacting in the atmosphere at large zenith angles, as well as for Earth-skimming τ neutrinos with nearly tangential trajectories relative to the Earth. No neutrino candidates were found in ∼ 14.7 years of data taken up to 31 August 2018. This leads to restrictive upper bounds on their flux. The 90% C.L. single-flavor limit to the diffuse flux of ultra-high-energy neutrinos with an Eν -2 spectrum in the energy range 1.0 × 1017 eV -2.5 × 1019 eV is E2 dNν/dEν < 4.4 × 10-9 GeV cm-2 s-1 sr-1, placing str…
