The role of H2O in the photocatalytic oxidation of toluene in vapour phase on anatase TiO2 catalyst

Abstract Photocatalytic oxidation of toluene has been carried out in a gas–solid regime by using polycrystalline anatase TiO2 in a fixed-bed continuous reactor. Air containing toluene and water vapours in various molar ratios was fed to the photoreactor irradiated by a medium pressure Hg lamp. Toluene was mainly photo-oxidised to benzaldehyde, and small amount of benzene, benzyl alcohol and traces of benzoic acid and phenol were also detected. In the presence of water, no decrease of photoreactivity was observed at steady-state conditions. Structure-based evaluation of the resonance interactions and effectiveness of the charge transfer in nitroamines

Structural data for five nitroamines of general formula Me2N–G–NO2 show effectiveness of the ground-state charge transfer to be most and least efficient in N,N-dimethylnitramine and in 4-N,N-dimethylamino-β-nitrostyrene, respectively. Electron-donor power of the amino nitrogen atom in the latter compound is less than that in 4-nitro-β-N,N-dimethylaminostyrene (these two compounds are isomers). Natural population analysis shows that the charge transfer from the amino to the nitro oxygen atoms is most effective in N,N-dimethylnitramine, Me2N–NO2. DOSY NMR, X-ray Structural and Ion-Mobility Mass Spectrometric Studies on Electron-Deficient and Electron-Rich M6L4 Coordination Cages.

A novel modular approach to electron-deficient and electron-rich M6L4 cages is presented. From the same starting compound, via a minor modulation of the synthesis route, two C3-symmetric ligands L1 and L2 with different electronic properties are obtained in good yield. The trifluoro-triethynylbenzene-based ligand L1 is more electron-deficient than the well-known 2,4,6-tri(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine, while the trimethoxy-triethynylbenzene-based ligand L2 is more electron-rich than the corresponding benzene analogue.
