This chapter discusses the volume’s theoretical underpinnings, which are derived from philosophical pragmatism. One of the key ideas of this research project has been to bring philosophical and empirical research into dialogue by following the principles of pragmatism. Pragmatism sees the relationship between theory and practice as bidirectional: all theories must be subjected to revision in light of practice but, at the same time, a crucial role of theories is to critique current practices. Aizkuņģa dziedzera duktālā adenokarcinoma ir viens no letālākajiem audzējiem, kas šobrīd sastopami. Tā morbiditāti un simptomus daļēji attiecina uz perifērās nervu sistēmas (PNS) pastiprinātu inervāciju, kas rodas audzējā. Svarīga loma šajā inervācijā ir PNS glijai – Švāna šūnām, kas mijiedarbojas ar audzēja šūnām un ir daļa no audzēja mikrovides. Tā kā nervu sistēmas klātbūtni novēro arī veselos audos, nepieciešams raksturot arī to, kā perifiērā nervu sistēma ietekmē aizkuņģa dziedzera šūnu homeostāzi un attīstību. Learning Economic Citizenship Among Rural Women : Village Saving Groups in Western Uganda

The notion of economic citizenship is prevalent in non-governmental organizations’ (NGOs) interventions aimed at promoting inclusive development in the Global South. In this chapter, we draw on the concept of participatory learning (Mayoux in IDS Bulletin 29:39–50, 1998; Pretty in World Development 23:1247–1263, 1995), to explore how NGO-initiated village savings and lending associations (VSLAs) provide platforms for learning among rural women in Uganda.
