Planning teachers' professional development for global education 1

2004

Group consultation was used with educators at different stages of their careers as an innovative research tool in the development of both pre- and in-service teacher training for world citizenship education. The themes identified by the teachers were quite broad, and included the need for more educational philosophy, varied educational methodology and the skills to collaborate with other teachers in order to create a “culture of consultation in schools”. Involving teachers in the field was found to be essential in identifying critical areas for training, as well as for appropriate means and implementation. A survey of seminar participants (n 35) showed new paths for development in the area …

Integración: una cuestión de derechos

2010

This article achieves a comparative analysis between the Citizenship and Integration Programme (2007-2010) and the spanish Migration Bill Project. Firstly, it aims to analyze whether the concept of integration, as it was introduced as a general principle within the Migration Bill, is consistent with the concept of the Programme. Secondly, it is about to examine how the notion of integration affects some of the provisions, which are introduced by the law reform, especially on fundamental rights. Finally, this leads to assess the implications and strains between migration control policies and integration policies about migrants’.

The European Landscape Convention with respect to the cultural landscape – a Polish perspective (Europejska Konwencja Krajobrazowa wobec krajobrazu k…

2022

ELC defi…

Communicative memory of irregular migration: The re-circulation of news images on YouTube

2016

This article analyses user-generated YouTube cut and mix videos of irregular migration as producing communicative memory of those who have suffered at Europe’s external borders. Visual and textual analyses examine a neglected perspective on the study of media representations of migration by examining a particular practice through which people engage with news images and participate in (re)construction of collective memory in relation to irregular migration. The analysis shows that while hegemonic Eurocentric imagery prevails also in the vernacular amateur productions, re-mixing different cultural productions nevertheless complicates the representation of irregular migration and affords alte…

El proyecto europeo y la ciudadanía para los inmigrantes

2005

The European Constitutional Treaty which is going to be ratified these days offers a concept of European citizenship which disappoints the expectations to find a way for an integration of the resident immigrants or for any kind of political accommodation. In the light of the European framework and of the doctrinal debate, the proposal of a model of inclusive, plural and gradual citizenship will be examined, a citizenship which starts off with the notion of neighbourhood based on the continuous residence, followed by an analysis of the objections of those criticizing these proposals as a process of domestication.

THE CONCEPT OF “FAMILY” IN SOMALIS’ IMMIGRATION TO FINLAND Views from Immigration Officials and NGOs

2016

In Addis Ababa one can see dozens of Somali families waiting daily in front of the Embassy of Finland to be interviewed. The interview represents a means of entering Finland, since those waiting presumably have a so-called family re-unifier in Finland, a relative who has of ten already received a residence permit and sometimes even citizenship. This article examines the family reunification process of Somalis who travel from Ethiopia to Finland. Drawing on the experiences related by Finnish immigration officials, it focuses on the fact that they do not share the same definition of “family” as the Somali asylum applicants. Using extensive inter views and observations, this article aims to el…

Neutral experts or passionate participants? Renegotiating expertise and the right to act in Finnish participatory social policy

2018

This article examines a case of participatory social policy in which former beneficiaries were invited as ‘experts-by-experience’ into Finnish social welfare organisations. It combines a governmentality perspective with the analytical tools of the sociology of engagements to explore as what the projects’ participants are engaged, and how the differing demands made on their ways of being are made to appear as legitimate. The article shows how different definitions of expertise are used to steer the participants’ forms of engagement, and how these definitions appear valid only within a specific frame of justifying civic participation. It concludes that the participants’ expertise is defined i…

Temporality in cosmopolitan solidarity : Archival activism and participatory documentary film as mediated witnessing of suffering at Europe’s borders

2019

This article develops and extends the idea of cosmopolitan solidarity to temporality through a case study of archival activism and participatory film-making. It examines mediated witnessing within the Italian online audiovisual archive Archivio delle memorie migranti, which documents and archives the experiences of contemporary migrants in Italy. The moral basis of Archivio delle memorie migranti is cosmopolitan solidarity, which is usually understood as a practice that crosses spatial and communal boundaries. However, the ethics of solidarity also bridges past, present and future generations. Through the case of Archivio delle memorie migranti, this article demonstrates the significance o…

Structure-reactivity relationship for aromatics transalkylation and isomerization process with TNU-9, MCM-22 and ZSM-5 zeolites, and their industrial…

2011

[EN] TNU-9 is a medium pore zeolite with a complex tridimensional channel system. Its catalytic properties have been studied in some reactions that involve the BTX fraction, such as benzene and toluene alkylation with methanol, ethanol or isopropanol. These reactions use in practice medium pore zeolites such as ZSM-5 (MFI) or MCM-22 (MWW), and the selectivities obtained with TNU-9 are compared and analyzed from the point of view of the zeolite structure and pore topology, as well as from its possible industrial application. For benzene alkylation to give ethylbenzene (EB), TNU-9 is an active and selective catalyst with selectivities to EB much higher than ZSM-5 and close to those of the ind…

Influence of Pore-Volume Topology of Zeolite ITQ-7 in Alkylation and Isomerization of Aromatic Compounds

2002

The void structure of zeolite ITQ-7 (ISV structure) is discussed on the basis of catalytic reaction tests. The isomerization and disproportionation of meta-xylene, and the alkylation of benzene or toluene with either ethanol or isopropanol, on the acidic zeolite have been used as model reactions. The dimensions of its three-dimensional system of channels, with pores between 6.1 and 6.3 A and with lower tortuosity than those of beta zeolite, favor higher ratios of isomerization to disproportionation of meta-xylene, and of mono- to dialkylated products and iso- to n-propylbenzene during alkylation of benzene. These effects are enhanced with a partially coked ITQ-7.
