Note on the decay of200Au

1972

Gamma and beta rays from the decay of200Au (48.4 min) were studied employing Ge(Li) and plastic detectors in various singles and coincidence arrangements. The intensity of the β-branch to the ground state of200Hg was determined as 79%, and the disintegration energy of200Au to be asQβ=2.26 ± 0.06 MeV. A tentative spin and parity assignment of (1,2)+ is proposed for levels at 1515.2 and 1972.5 keV in 200Hg

β-decay half-lives andβ-delayed neutron emission probabilities of nuclei in the regionA≲110, relevant for the r process

2009

Measurements of $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay properties of $A\ensuremath{\lesssim}110$ r-process nuclei have been completed at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University. $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay half-lives for $^{105}\mathrm{Y}$, $^{106,107}\mathrm{Zr}$, and $^{111}\mathrm{Mo}$, along with $\ensuremath{\beta}$-delayed neutron emission probabilities of $^{104}\mathrm{Y}$, $^{109,110}\mathrm{Mo}$ and upper limits for $^{105}\mathrm{Y}$, $^{103\ensuremath{-}107}\mathrm{Zr}$, and $^{108,111}\mathrm{Mo}$ have been measured for the first time. Studies on the basis of the quasi-random-phase approximation are used to analyze the ground-state deformation of these…

Plunger Lifetime Measurements in 102Pd

2006

Recently, an intense experimental effort has been devoted to the search of empirical proofs of critical‐point symmetries in nuclear structure. These symmetries describe shape‐phase transitions and provide parameter‐free predictions (up to over‐all scale factors) for excitation spectra and B(E2) values. This contribution reports on recent plunger‐lifetime measurements ON 102Pd carried out at LNL, Legnaro, with the Cologne plunger apparatus coupled to the GASP spectrometer and using the 92Zr(13C,3n)102Pd reaction at 48 MeV. According to the results of our measurements, 102Pd is so far the best known paradigm of the E(5) critical‐point symmetry.

Incomplete retention of radiation damage in zircon from Sri Lanka

2004

A suite of 18 zircon gemstones from placers in the Highland/Southwestern Complex, Sri Lanka, were subjected to a comprehensive study of their radiation damages and ages. The investigation included X-ray diffraction, Raman and PL spectroscopy, electron microprobe, PIXE and HRTEM analysis, as well as (U-Th)/He and SHRIMP U-Th-Pb age determinations. Zircon samples described in this study are virtually homogeneous. They cover the range from slightly metamict to nearly amorphous. Generally concordant U-Th-Pb ages averaging 555 ± 11 Ma were obtained. Late Ordovician zircon (U-Th)/He ages scattering around 443 ± 9 Ma correspond reasonably well with previously determined biotite Rb-Sr ages for rock…

Highly stable and porous porphyrin-based zirconium and hafnium phosphonates – electron crystallography as an important tool for structure elucidation

2018

The Ni-metallated porphyrin-based tetraphosphonic acid (Ni-tetra(4-phosphonophenyl)porphyrin, Ni-H8TPPP) was used for the synthesis of highly porous metal phosphonates containing the tetravalent cations Zr4+ and Hf4+. The compounds were thoroughly characterized regarding their sorption properties towards N2 and H2O as well as thermal and chemical stability. During the synthesis optimization the reaction time could be substantially decreased under stirring from 24 to 3 h in glass vials. M-CAU-30, [M2(Ni-H2TPPP)(OH/F)2]·H2O (M = Zr, Hf) shows exceptionally high specific surface areas for metal phosphonates of aBET = 1070 and 1030 m2 g-1 for Zr- and Hf-CAU-30, respectively, which are very clos…

Clinical outcomes of veneered zirconia anterior partial fixed dental prostheses: A 12-year prospective clinical trial

2019

Abstract Statement of problem Anterior veneered zirconia partial fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) have substituted for metal-ceramic to improve esthetics and biocompatibility. However, the material is susceptible to aging or hydrothermal degradation and to chipping of the feldspathic veneer. Whether these susceptibilities limit the clinical performance of anterior veneered zirconia FPDs is unclear. Purpose The purpose of this prospective clinical study was to analyze the mechanical and biologic behavior of zirconia partial FDPs in the anterior region over a 12-year follow-up period. Material and methods Twenty-seven 3- to 6-unit FDPs fabricated from zirconia veneered with feldspathic porcelai…

BST ceramics: Effect of attrition milling on dielectric properties

2004

Abstract The effect of grain size on the dielectric properties of Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 (BST) ceramics is investigated. Attrition milling is chosen to obtain nanometre particle size from micrometre particle size powders. Fine grained ceramics are obtained by hot uniaxial pressing (HUP). Additionally, the present study is focused on the effect of the nature of milling balls on loss tangent and permittivity. For that, three kinds of balls are tested: calcia, yttria or ceria stabilised zirconia balls. The properties of these samples are evaluated in the range of MHz. The balls induce an involuntary doping of powders which modifies the dielectric properties, especially the Curie temperature and loss t…

INFLUENCE OF ZIRCONIUM ON STRUCTURAL, MICROSTRUCTURAL AND FERROELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF BaZr0.20Ti0.80O3 CERAMIC

2009

ABSTRACT Barium zirconium titanate BaZrxTi1-xO3 ceramics have been obtained by conventional method. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the BaZr0.20Ti0.80O3 crystallizes in the cubic structure. The lattice parameter a increases with temperature, at temperature ∼308 K a small deviation is observed. The performed EDS study revealed that the samples were perfectly sintered and that the material was chemically homogeneous. It contains a little glassy phase and the grains are well shaped. The zirconium content (20 mol%) in the examined solid solution caused downward shift of the temperature T m . The increase of the achieved permittivity values ϵm was observed as well.

Near-coincidence lattice method for the determination of epitaxy strains during oxidation of metals

2000

Abstract A theoretical method is proposed to evaluate the strains due to epitaxy between a metal and its oxide. Based on Bollmann’s approach of two adjoining grains, it uses the quantitative texture analysis of the two materials separated by the phase boundary. Our study of the Zr/ZrO 2 and Mo/MoO 3 systems reveals strong correlations between the criterion of best fit proposed by Bollmann and the orientation distribution function obtained by a quantitative texture analysis. The results of this study are used in a thermo-mechano-chemical simulation of the oxidation process of zirconium, which leads to this observation: two different zirconia orientations induce two different oxidation kineti…
