The role of the ergosphere in the Blandford-Znajek process

The Blandford-Znajek process, one of the most promising model for powering the relativistic jets from black holes, was initially introduced as a mechanism in which the magnetic fields extract energy from a rotating black hole. We study the evolution of force-free electromagnetic fields on regular spacetimes with an ergosphere, which are generated by rapidly rotating stars. Our conclusive results confirm previous works, claiming that the Blandford-Znajek mechanism is not directly related to the horizon of the black hole. We also show that the radiated energy depends exponentially on the compactness of the star.

Pollution and economic growth: a maximum likelihood estimation of environmental Kuznets curve

As in Brock and Taylor (2011) in this paper we consider the importance of the relationship between the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) Literature and the Economic Growth Theories. To address this issue we construct country production functions that directly incorporate CO2 emissions as input and estimate them using Stochastic Frontiers. This approach differs from that of Brock and Taylor (2011) but is similar to the one followed by Koop (1998). By introducing the environmental “bads” directly in the production function, we can analyse their contribution to total output growth. First Observation of an Attractive Interaction between a Proton and a Cascade Baryon

Caurspīdīga stikla keramika ir kompozītmateriāls, kurā amorfā stikla fāzē atrodas izkliedēti nanokristāli. Tā kā caurspīdīgām stikla keramikām ir vairāki iespējamie pielietojumi fotonikā, svarīgi ir novērtēt aktivatoru jonu iebūvēšanos kristāliskajā fāzē nanokristālos, kā arī raksturot optiskās īpašības kvantitatīvi. Darba gaitā sintezēti stikla keramikas paraugi, kas satur CaF2 kristālisko fāzi, ar Eu3+ koncentrāciju 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 5 un 10 mol%. Paraugiem veikti rentgendifrakcijas mērījumi, no kuriem iespējams novērtēt aktivatoru jonu iebūvēšanās efektivitāti, izmantojot kristāliskā režģa konstantes izmaiņas atkarībā no Eu3+ koncentrācijas.
