Applications of Quantum Chemistry in Spectroscopy: Molecules, Complexes of Van der Waals, trapped Molecules

2009

I described in this memory my activities as a researcher at Tomsk well before 2003, in succession to the State University of Tomsk in the Faculty of Physics, Institute of Physics of Siberia, and the Institute of 'Atmospheric Optics, in France since then, mostly at the University of Bourgogne (ICB), but also at the University of Lille I (PhLAM) and the University of Marne-la-Vallée (LCT). Part of my work has been dedicated to the evaluation by calculating ab initio of rovibrational constants for quasi-spherical molecules. The centrifugal distortion constants and the dipole moment of the molecule SO2F2 were calculated to validate the tensor theory and interpreter the spectrum. I twas shown th…

Strongly Coupled Coherent Phonons in Single-Layer MoS 2

2019

We present a transient absorption setup combining broadband detection over the visible-UV range with high temporal resolution ($\sim$20fs) which is ideally suited to trigger and detect vibrational coherences in different classes of materials. We generate and detect coherent phonons (CPs) in single layer (1L) MoS$_2$, as a representative semiconducting 1L-transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD), where the confined dynamical interaction between excitons and phonons is unexplored. The coherent oscillatory motion of the out-of-plane $A'_{1}$ phonons, triggered by the ultrashort laser pulses, dynamically modulates the excitonic resonances on a timescale of few tens fs. We observe an enhancement by…

Crystal field and magnetism with Wannier functions: Rare-earth doped aluminum garnets

2015

Using the recently developed method we calculate the crystal field parameters in yttrium and lutetium aluminum garnets doped with seven trivalent Kramers rare-earth ions. We then insert calculated parameters into the atomic-like Hamiltonian taking into account the electron-electron, spin-orbit and Zeeman interactions and determine the multiplet splitting by the crystal field as well as magnetic $\hat{g}$ tensors. We compare calculated results with available experimental data.

The SO2F2 quasi-spherical top: Correspondence between tensorial and Watson's formalisms

2006

Abstract The SO2F2 quasi-spherical top molecule with C2v symmetry is considered as a distorted spherical top deriving from the SO 4 2 − tetrahedral ion. We present here a detailed correspondence between the tensorial formalism using the Td⊃C2v reorientation and the usual Hamiltonian of Watson. We have also performed ab initio calculations in order to determine the centrifugal distorsion constants in the vibrational ground state.

Localized surface plasmon resonance in silver nanoparticles: Atomistic first-principles time-dependent density-functional theory calculations

2015

We observe using ab initio methods that localized surface plasmon resonances in icosahedral silver nanoparticles enter the asymptotic region already between diameters of 1 and 2 nm, converging close to the classical quasistatic limit around 3.4 eV. We base the observation on time-dependent density-functional theory simulations of the icosahedral silver clusters Ag$_{55}$ (1.06 nm), Ag$_{147}$ (1.60 nm), Ag$_{309}$ (2.14 nm), and Ag$_{561}$ (2.68 nm). The simulation method combines the adiabatic GLLB-SC exchange-correlation functional with real time propagation in an atomic orbital basis set using the projector-augmented wave method. The method has been implemented for the electron structure…

Electronic Structures and Molecular Properties of Chalcogen Nitrides Se2N2 and SeSN2

2006

The electronic structures and molecular properties of S2N2 as well as the currently unknown chalcogen nitrides Se2N2 and SeSN2 have been studied using various ab initio and density functional methods. All molecules share a qualitatively similar electronic structure and can be primarily described as 2π-electron aromatics having minor singlet diradical character of 6−8% that can be attributed solely to the nitrogen atoms. This diradical character is manifested in the prediction of their molecular properties, in which coupled cluster and multiconfigurational approaches, as well as density functional methods, show the best performance. The conventional ab initio methods RHF and MP2 completely f…

Design Scheme of New Tetragonal Heusler Compounds for Spin-Transfer Torque Applications and its Experimental Realization

2012

Band Jahn-Teller type structural instabilities of cubic Mn(2)YZ Heusler compounds causing tetragonal distortions can be predicted by ab initio band-structure calculations. This allows for identification of new Heusler materials with tunable magnetic and structural properties that can satisfy the demands for spintronic applications, such as in spin-transfer torque-based devices.

Total Structure and Electronic Structure Analysis of Doped Thiolated Silver [MAg24(SR)18]2– (M = Pd, Pt) Clusters

2015

With the incorporation of Pd or Pt atoms, thiolated Ag-rich 25-metal-atom nanoclusters were successfully prepared and structurally characterized for the first time. With a composition of [PdAg24(SR)18](2-) or [PtAg24(SR)18](2-), the obtained 25-metal-atom nanoclusters have a metal framework structure similar to that of widely investigated Au25(SR)18. In both clusters, a M@Ag12 (M = Pd, Pt) core is capped by six distorted dimeric -RS-Ag-SR-Ag-SR- units. However, the silver-thiolate overlayer gives rise to a geometric chirality at variance to Au25(SR)18. The effect of doping on the electronic structure was studied through measured optical absorption spectra and ab initio analysis. This work d…

Observation of the Early Structural Changes Leading to the Formation of Protein Superstructures.

2014

Formation of superstructures in protein aggregation processes has been indicated as a general pathway for several proteins, possibly playing a role in human pathologies. There is a severe lack of knowledge on the origin of such species in terms of both mechanisms of formation and structural features. We use equine lysozyme as a model protein, and by combining spectroscopic techniques and microscopy with X-ray fiber diffraction and ab initio modeling of Small Angle X-ray Scattering data, we isolate the partially unfolded state from which one of these superstructures (i.e., particulate) originates. We reveal the low-resolution structure of the unfolded state and its mechanism of formation, hi…

On the ‘expanded local mode’ approach applied to the methane molecule: isotopic substitutions CH3D ←CH4 and CHD3 ←CH4

2014

Operator perturbation theory and the symmetry properties of the axially symmetric XYZ3 (C3v) type molecules are used for the determination of the spectroscopic parameters in the form of functions of structural parameters and parameters of the intramolecular potential function. Several relations between sets of spectroscopic parameters of these molecules are obtained. The ‘expanded local mode’ model and the general isotopic substitution theory are used to estimate the relations between spectroscopic parameters of CH3D and CHD3, on one hand, and with the Td symmetric isotopic species, CH4, on the other hand. Test calculations with the isotopic relations show that even without including prior …
