Transcendental lattices of some K 3-surfaces
2008
In a previous paper, (S2), we described six families of K3-surfaces with Picard- number 19, and we identified surfaces with Picard-number 20. In these notes we classify some of the surfaces by computing their transcendental lattices. Moreover we show that the surfaces with Picard-number 19 are birational to a Kummer surface which is the quotient of a non-product type abelian surface by an involution.
On cubic elliptic varieties
2013
Let X->P^(n-1) be an elliptic fibration obtained by resolving the indeterminacy of the projection of a cubic hypersurface Y of P^(n+1) from a line L not contained in Y. We prove that the Mordell-Weil group of the elliptic fibration is finite if and only if the Cox ring of X is finitely generated. We also provide a presentation of the Cox ring of X when it is finitely generated.
A characterization of fundamental algebras through S-characters
2020
Abstract Fundamental algebras play an important role in the theory of algebras with polynomial identities in characteristic zero. They are defined in terms of multialternating polynomials non vanishing on them. Here we give a characterization of fundamental algebras in terms of representations of symmetric groups obtaining this way an equivalent definition. As an application we determine when a finitely generated Grassmann algebra is fundamental.
Entropy, Lyapunov exponents, and rigidity of group actions
2018
This text is an expanded series of lecture notes based on a 5-hour course given at the workshop entitled "Workshop for young researchers: Groups acting on manifolds" held in Teres\'opolis, Brazil in June 2016. The course introduced a number of classical tools in smooth ergodic theory -- particularly Lyapunov exponents and metric entropy -- as tools to study rigidity properties of group actions on manifolds. We do not present comprehensive treatment of group actions or general rigidity programs. Rather, we focus on two rigidity results in higher-rank dynamics: the measure rigidity theorem for affine Anosov abelian actions on tori due to A. Katok and R. Spatzier [Ergodic Theory Dynam. Systems…
Near abelian profinite groups
2012
Abstract A compact p-group G (p prime) is called near abelian if it contains an abelian normal subgroup A such that G/A has a dense cyclic subgroup and that every closed subgroup of A is normal in G. We relate near abelian groups to a class of compact groups, which are rich in permuting subgroups. A compact group is called quasihamiltonian (or modular) if every pair of compact subgroups commutes setwise. We show that for p ≠ 2 a compact p-group G is near abelian if and only if it is quasihamiltonian. The case p = 2 is discussed separately.
On the adjoint group of some radical rings
1997
A ring R is called radical if it coincides with its Jacobson radical, which means that Rforms a group under the operation a ° b = a + b + ab for all a and b in R. This group is called the adjoint group R° of R. The relation between the adjoint group R° and the additive group R+ of a radical rin R is an interesting topic to study. It has been shown in [1] that the finiteness conditions “minimax”, “finite Prufer rank”, “finite abelian subgroup rank” and “finite torsionfree rank” carry over from the adjoint group to the additive group of a radical ring. The converse is true for the minimax condition, while it fails for all the other above finiteness conditions by an example due to Sysak [6] (s…
On multiplicities of cocharacters for algebras with superinvolution
2021
Abstract In this paper we deal with finitely generated superalgebras with superinvolution, satisfying a non-trivial identity, whose multiplicities of the cocharacters are bounded by a constant. Along the way, we prove that the codimension sequence of such algebras is polynomially bounded if and only if their colength sequence is bounded by a constant.
Hurwitz spaces of quadruple coverings of elliptic curves and the moduli space of abelian threefolds A_3(1,1,4)
2005
We prove that the moduli space A_3(1,1,4) of polarized abelian threefolds with polarization of type (1,1,4) is unirational. By a result of Birkenhake and Lange this implies the unirationality of the isomorphic moduli space A_3(1,4,4). The result is based on the study the Hurwitz space H_{4,n}(Y) of quadruple coverings of an elliptic curve Y simply branched in n points. We prove the unirationality of its codimension one subvariety H^{0}_{4,A}(Y) which parametrizes quadruple coverings :X --> Y with Tschirnhausen modules isomorphic to A^{-1}, where A\in Pic^{n/2}Y, and for which ^*:J(Y)--> J(X) is injective. This is an analog of the result of Arbarello and Cornalba that the Hurwitz s…
A description of pseudo-bosons in terms of nilpotent Lie algebras
2017
We show how the one-mode pseudo-bosonic ladder operators provide concrete examples of nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension five. It is the first time that an algebraic-geometric structure of this kind is observed in the context of pseudo-bosonic operators. Indeed we don't find the well known Heisenberg algebras, which are involved in several quantum dynamical systems, but different Lie algebras which may be decomposed in the sum of two abelian Lie algebras in a prescribed way. We introduce the notion of semidirect sum (of Lie algebras) for this scope and find that it describes very well the behaviour of pseudo-bosonic operators in many quantum models.
Hurwitz spaces of triple coverings of elliptic curves and moduli spaces of abelian threefolds
2002
We prove that the moduli spaces A_3(D) of polarized abelian threefolds with polarizations of types D=(1,1,2), (1,2,2), (1,1,3) or (1,3,3) are unirational. The result is based on the study of families of simple coverings of elliptic curves of degree 2 or 3 and on the study of the corresponding period mappings associated with holomorphic differentials with trace 0. In particular we prove the unirationality of the Hurwitz space H_{3,A}(Y) which parameterizes simply branched triple coverings of an elliptic curve Y with determinants of the Tschirnhausen modules isomorphic to A^{-1}.
