Fabry–Pérot lineshape analysis in an optically thick expanding plasma

2007

In this work the authors present Fabry–Perot measurements of Ar atom spectral line profiles originating from the expansion of an Ar–N2 thermal plasma into a low pressure environment. The plasma is characterized by strong density, temperature and velocity gradients and it offers a high degree of light absorption for some gas mixtures. First, it is demonstrated that the Abel inversion method cannot be applied under such conditions even if absorption is absent. Second, two approaches are examined to obtain plasma parameters in the case of an optically thick expanding plasma. It is shown that velocity and temperature development along the jet radius can be inferred from experimental lineshapes …

Measurement of rotational relaxation in the ground state of methane perturbed by argon at low temperature

1999

International audience; Relaxation processes at low temperature in methane perturbed by argon have been investigated on the basis of new measurements. Diode laser absorption spectra of methane in the region of the dyad nu2/nu4 in supersonic expansions have been recorded. The time of relaxation of the ground state mean rotational energy was derived from the observed dependences of the rotational temperature on the concentration in the jet. A semi-classical model was used to calculate the state-to-state relaxation rate constants at room temperature. The evaluation of the time of relaxation of the mean rotational energy using semi-empirical temperature dependence laws is presented and discusse…

Topical Application of Glycolipids from Isochrysis galbana Prevents Epidermal Hyperplasia in Mice

2017

Chronic inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis have a significant impact on society. Currently, the major topical treatments have many side effects, making their continued use in patients difficult. Microalgae have emerged as a source of bio-active molecules such as glycolipids with potent anti-inflammatory properties. We aimed to investigate the effects of a glycolipid (MGMG-A) and a glycolipid fraction (MGDG) obtained from the microalga Isochrysis galbana on a TPA-induced epidermal hyperplasia murine model. In a first set of experiments, we examined the preventive effects of MGMG-A and MGDG dissolved in acetone on TPA-induced hyperplasia model in mice. In a second step, we performed…

Baicalin and berberine ultradeformable vesicles as potential adjuvant in vitiligo therapy.

2018

0.5-1% of the world's population is affected by vitiligo, a disease characterized by a gradual depigmentation of the skin. Baicalin and berberine are natural compounds with beneficial activities, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and proliferative effects. These polyphenols could be useful for the treatment of vitiligo symptoms, and their efficacy can be improved by loading in suitable carriers. The aim of this work was to formulate and characterize baicalin or berberine loaded ultradeformable vesicles, and demonstrate their potential as adjuvants in the treatment of vitiligo. The vesicles were produced using a previously reported simple, scalable method. Their morphology, size distrib…

Development of novel diolein–niosomes for cutaneous delivery of tretinoin: Influence of formulation and in vitro assessment

2014

Abstract This work describes innovative niosomes, composed of diolein alone or in association with the hydrophilic penetration enhancer Labrasol ® , as carriers for cutaneous drug delivery. The model drug was tretinoin and conventional, and Labrasol ® containing liposomes was used as controls to evaluate the influence of vesicle composition and the role of Labrasol ® on vesicle physico-chemical properties and performance as skin delivery system. Vesicles, prepared by the thin film hydration technique, were characterized in terms of size distribution, morphology, zeta potential, structure, incorporation efficiency, and rheological properties. The influence of carrier composition on tretinoin…

Formulation of liposomes loading lentisk oil to ameliorate topical delivery, attenuate oxidative stress damage and improve cell migration in scratch …

2021

[EN] Pistacia lentiscus L. is a sclerophyllous shrub capable of growing under harsh climatic conditions especially in the Mediterranean Basin. Different products can be obtained from this plant, such as essential oil, mastic gum or even fixed oil. The last is well known for its flavor which is mainly exploited in the food industry. Additionally, it has been traditionally used in the treatment of skin diseases, but, at the moment, any suitable formulation for skin delivery has been formulated and its biological effects was not deeply confirmed. Given that, in the present study, the lentisk oil has been formulated in liposomes at different concentrations (10, 20, 30 mg/ml) and their physicoch…

Study of Structure–Third-Order Susceptibility Relation of Indandione Derivatives

2016

By using the Z-scan method we studied the third-order nonlinear optical parameters of several aminobenziliden-1,3-indandione (ABI) derivatives that have previously been shown to own second-order nonlinear optical properties. Measurements were carried out using two 1064 nm Nd:YAG lasers with picosecond (ps) and nanosecond (ns) pulse widths, respectively. When ns laser was employed in the Z-scan setup, a strong thermal lensing took place resulting in severe overestimation of optical Kerr coefficients. Due to this reason the ps laser was employed to evaluate correct magnitude of Kerr effect. For investigated organic molecules, experimental results show that two-photon absorption at 1064 nm is …

Preclinical Effect of Absorption Modifying Excipients on Rat Intestinal Transport of Model Compounds and the Mucosal Barrier Marker 51Cr-EDTA

2017

There is a renewed interest from the pharmaceutical field to develop oral formulations of compounds, such as peptides, oligonucleotides, and polar drugs. However, these often suffer from insufficient absorption across the intestinal mucosal barrier. One approach to circumvent this problem is the use of absorption modifying excipient(s) (AME). This study determined the absorption enhancing effect of four AMEs (sodium dodecyl sulfate, caprate, chitosan, N-acetylcysteine) on five model compounds in a rat jejunal perfusion model. The aim was to correlate the model compound absorption to the blood-to-lumen clearance of the mucosal marker for barrier integrity, 51Cr-EDTA. Sodium dodecyl sulfate a…

Structural differences of prebiotic oligosaccharides influence their capability to enhance iron absorption in deficient rats

2014

This study evaluates the influence of novel galacto-oligosaccharides derived from lactulose (GOS-Lu), kojibiose or 4′-galactosyl-kojibiose in hematological parameters of Fe homeostasis using Fe-deficient animals. Liver TfR-2, IL-6, NFκB and PPAR-γ expression (mRNA) were also determined by RT-qPCR analyses, and active hepcidin peptide production and short chain fatty acids by LC coupled to MS/MS or UV detection. Feeding animals with GOS-Lu or kojibiose together with FeCl3 increased hemoglobin (Hb) production (by 17%) and mean Hb concentration into erythrocytes relative to animals administered with FeCl3 alone (14.1% and 19.7%, respectively). Animals administered with prebiotics showed decrea…
