Rational design of aminoanthraquinones for colorimetric detection of heavy metal ions in aqueous solution
2011
A family of water-soluble colorimetric chemosensors incorporating an anthraquinone signalling subunit functionalized with a polyamine chain that bears hydrophilic diethoxyphosphoryl moieties was prepared with the aim of assaying metal cations. The outstanding UV-Vis absorption properties of the 1-aminoanthraquinone chromophore allowed the efficient visual detection and quantification of copper(II) ions by chelators L(1)-L(3) in buffered aqueous solution. Moreover, the visible response of L(2) is not interfered by addition of large excesses of 13 common metal ions, whereas chemosensor L(3) produces also a color change in the presence of equimolar amounts of lead(II). Considering the 134 nm g…
Polymer Halide Perovskites-Waveguides Integrated in Nanocellulose as a Wearable Amplifier-Photodetector System
2018
Semiconductor organometallic halide (CH 3 NH 3 PbX 3 , X=Cl, Br, I) perovskites (MHP) have emerged as a very high promising material for optoelectronics. Their large absorption coefficients, high electronic mobilities, excellent quantum yield of emission at room temperature and tunable band-gap with the composition resulted in a new generation of photovoltaics and electronic devices. In this work, HPVK materials are successfully incorporated on a nanocellulose (NC) substrate with the intention to exploit the interesting properties of HPVK materials to construct wearable devices. In particular, a bilayer Poly(methyl methacrylate) /HPVK deposited on NC resulted in a suitable waveguide to demo…
Alkoxy-Substituted Hexastyrylbenzenes
2003
Star-shaped compounds 2a–e with a central benzene ring and six p-substituted, (E)-configured styryl groups have been prepared by a sequence of three-fold Heck and three-fold Wittig–Horner reactions. Alkoxy chains (OC3H7, OC6H13, OC10H21, OC12H25) on all six arms guarantee a good solubility of 2a–d, whereas the alternating hexyloxy and cyano substitution in 2e leads to an almost insoluble push-pull system. Irradiation into the long-wavelength absorption of 2a–d (with λmax values of 341–342 nm) results in a statistical photocross-linking, which is characterized by the complete degradation of all stilbene chromophores.
F centre production in CsI and CsI–Tl crystals under Kr ion irradiation at 15 K
2000
Abstract We present results of simultaneous in situ luminescence and optical absorption studies in scintillator CsI and CsI–Tl crystals, exposed to very dense electronic excitations induced by 86Kr ions (8.63 MeV/amu). Irradiation at 15 K leads to the formation of the prominent F absorption band. In addition, several other features of the broad absorption between exciton and F bands were ascribed to an anion vacancy, α centre (240 nm), self-trapped hole, Vk centre (410 nm) and interstitials, H centres (560 nm). We have found that low doping of thallium (∼1017 cm−3) causes the F centre formation to proceed more rapidly than in pure crystal. On the other hand, we were not able to create any a…
Crossing the boundary between face-centred cubic and hexagonal close packed: the structure of nanosized cobalt is unraveled by a model accounting for…
2014
The properties of nanostructured cobalt in the fields of magnetic, catalytic and biomaterials depend critically on Co close packing. This paper reports a structural analysis of nanosized cobalt based on the whole X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern simulation allowed by the Debye equation. The underlying structural model involves statistical sequences of cobalt layers and produces simulated XRD powder patterns bearing the concurrent signatures of hexagonal and cubic close packing (h.c.p. and f.c.c.). Shape, size distribution and distance distribution between pairs of atoms are also modelled. The simulation algorithm allows straightforward fitting to experimental data and hence the quantitative …
Photoluminescence activity in natural silica excited in the vacuum-UV range
1999
Abstract We report an experimental study on the optical absorption and photoluminescence detected in samples of natural silica. Our results show that the two emission bands, β (∼3.1 eV) and α E (∼4.3 eV), have an excitation profile in the vacuum ultraviolet region with a maximum at ∼7.5 eV. This excitation profile indicates that, in terms of energy levels of the luminescent defect, there is a transition from a ground state, S 0 , to a second excited state, S 2 , able to excite PL emission, in addition to the well known transition corresponding to the optical absorption band, B 2β . Our data are in a quantitative agreement with `ab initio' calculations carried out for a two-fold coordinated …
Properties of Human Hemoglobins with Increased Polarity in the α- or β-Heme Pocket
1998
The spectroscopic, conformational, and functional properties of mutant carbonmonoxy hemoglobins in which either the β-globin Val67(E11) or the α-globin Val62(E11) is replaced by threonine have been investigated. The thermal evolution of the Soret absorption band and the stretching frequency of the bound CO were used to probe the stereodynamic properties of the heme pocket. The functional properties were investigated by kinetic measurements. The spectroscopic and functional data were related to the conformational properties through molecular analysis. The effects of this nonpolar-to-polar isosteric mutation are: (i) increase of heme pocket anharmonic motions, (ii) stabilization of the A 0 co…
Adsorption of Rare Earth Elements onto DNA-Functionalized Mesoporous Carbon.
2020
The recovery and separation of rare earth elements (REEs) are of national importance owing to the specific usages, high demand, and low supply of these elements. In this research, we have investigated the adsorption of rare earth elements onto DNA-functionalized mesoporous carbons with a BET surface area of 605 m2/g and a median mesopore width of 48 A. Three types of single-stranded DNA, one with 100 base units of thymine, another with 20 units of thymine, and the third, a 2000 unit long DNA from salmon milt were grafted on the carboxylated mesoporous carbon surface. All of the DNA-functionalized mesoporous carbons demonstrated higher adsorption of REEs compared to pristine mesoporous carbo…
Towards sensory Langmuir monolayers consisting of macrocyclic pentaaminoanthraquinone
2014
A pentaazamacrocycle incorporating an intracyclic anthraquinone fragment (PENTAQ) was synthesized with the aim of forming metal-responsive Langmuir monolayers. PENTAQ allows a good discrimination by naked eye of copper ions in methanol–water solutions (50 : 50 v/v). Spectrophotometric investigations of the protonation and Cu2+ binding properties of PENTAQ were undertaken in order to gain a deeper insight into the pH-dependent speciation as well as the color changing process. PENTAQ monolayers at air/water and air/methanol–water interfaces were prepared according to the Langmuir procedure. The structure of the monolayers can be tuned by varying the pH of the aqueous subphase, since it was fo…
Population Pharmacokinetics of Palbociclib in aReal-World Situation
2021
Palbociclib is an oral cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor that is used in combination with aromatase inhibitors in the treatment of postmenopausal women with metastatic breast cancer. Its metabolism profile is associated with an important interpatient variability. We performed a population pharmacokinetics study of palbociclib in women routinely followed in a cancer center. One hundred and fifty-one samples were analyzed. The sampling times after administration ranged from 0.9 to 75 h and the samples were taken between 1 and 21 days after the beginning of the palbociclib cycle. Palbociclib was determined using a validated mass spectrometry method. The best model that described the concentrat…
