Supply chain modelling and analysis: an application of Latin square to a repeated coupling of non-linear differential equations

2011

In the last 50 years, Forrester’s system dynamics techniques have been adopted to analyse problems and find solutions for global supply chains. An important topic in production-inventory system modelling is the design of experiment. The aim of this paper is to present an application of a statistical technique of design of experiment, the Latin Square Design, to set a combination of input values for the initial-value problem of non-linear repeated coupling of first-order differential equations modelling a production-inventory system. This design permits to reduce the number of experiments while allowing statistical analysis for testing the significance of the studied parameters.

Cathodic reduction of hexavalent chromium coupled with electricity generation achieved by reverse-electrodialysis processes using salinity gradients

2014

Abstract A new approach for the simultaneous generation of electric energy and the treatment of waters contaminated by recalcitrant pollutants using salinity gradients was proposed. Reverse electrodialysis allows for the generation of electric energy from salinity gradients. Indeed, the utilization of different salt concentrations gives a potential difference between the electrodes which allows the generation of electric energy by using suitable electrolytes and an external circuit. The simultaneous generation of electric energy and the treatment of waters contaminated by Cr(VI) was successfully achieved for the first time by reverse electrodialysis processes using salinity gradients and pr…

Cross-linguistic influence and the MGM

2020

Abstract Language learning is an interactive, social effort and the role of grammar is no longer focused. Nowadays we consider most language learners to be pluricultural beings aiming at communicative language competence (cf. CEFR 2018) in another language. The role of grammar, thus, plays a subordinate role. Authentic language usage requires the analysis of authentic dialogues (via the Mixed Game Model, MGM) and awareness-raising regarding the phenomenon of language transfer (via Crosslinguistic-influence approaches). These two approaches will be merged within the article – addressed to linguists as well as language teachers.

Polish and Finnish teenagers’ motivation to learn English:the role of context

2016

Abstract Language learning motivation has been investigated in a number of contexts (Dornyei and Ushioda 2009). However, there has been only one attempt (Taguchi et al. 2009) at a systematic comparison of models of motivation to learn English by students from different countries. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of context by comparing motivational characteristics and SEM (Structural Equation Modelling) models of language learning motivation of 15-16 year-old students from Finland and Poland. The data from both countries was collected using the same motivational questionnaire with a total of 351 students completing it. A number of differences were identified between the two …

The minimal free resolution of fat almost complete intersections in ℙ1 x ℙ1

2017

AbstractA current research theme is to compare symbolic powers of an ideal I with the regular powers of I. In this paper, we focus on the case where I = IX is an ideal deûning an almost complete intersection (ACI) set of points X in ℙ1 × ℙ1. In particular, we describe a minimal free bigraded resolution of a non-arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay (also non-homogeneous) set 𝒵 of fat points whose support is an ACI, generalizing an earlier result of Cooper et al. for homogeneous sets of triple points. We call 𝒵 a fat ACI.We also show that its symbolic and ordinary powers are equal, i.e, .

On real-time algorithms for the location search of discontinuous conductivities with one measurement

2008

We discuss, and compare, two simple methods that provide coordinates of a point in the vicinity of one inclusion within some object with homogeneous electrical properties. In the context of nondestructive testing such an inclusion may correspond to a material defect, whereas in medicine this may correspond to a lesion in the brain, to name only two possible applications. Both methods use only one pair of voltage/current measurements on the entire boundary of the object to determine a single pair of coordinates that is considered to be close to the center of the inclusion. The first method has been proposed previously by Kwon, Seo and Yoon; the second method, called here the effective dipole…

RUNOFF CURVE NUMBER METHOD IN SICILY: CN DETERMINATION AND ANALYSIS OF THE INITIAL ABSTRACTION RATIO

2010

The Curve Number method is widely used in hydrology because it’s simply based on a single parameter, CN, that represents the basin absorption. In this paper CN is evaluated at basin scale from rainfall-runoff multi-daily events (Mockus, 1964), in the observation period 1940-1997 (record length mean equal to 20 years), for 61 Sicilian basin with three different methods: NEH4 method, Asymptotic fitting method (Hawkins, 1990, Hawkins et al., 2002, Hawkins et al., 2009), Least squares method (Woodward et al., 2006, Hawkins et al., 2009). A first analysis of Sicilian watershed behavior indicates a major occurrence of standard CN response (42 basins), rather than complacent response (11 basins) a…

Analysis of eta production using a generalized Lee model

1998

We have investigated the processes N($\pi$, $\pi$)N and N($\pi$, $\eta$)N close to eta threshold using a simple, nonrelativistic Lee model which has the advantage of being analytically solvable. It is then possible to study the Riemann sheets of the S-matrix and the behavior of its resonance poles especially close to threshold. A theoretical simulation of the experimental cusp effect at eta threshold leads to a characteristic distribution of poles on the Riemann sheets. We find a pole located in the $4^{th}$ Riemann sheet that up to now has not been discussed. It belongs to the cusp peak at eta threshold. In addition we obtain the surprising result using the Lee model that the resonance $S_…
