Robots as intelligent assistants to face COVID-19 pandemic

2020

AbstractMotivationThe epidemic at the beginning of this year, due to a new virus in the coronavirus family, is causing many deaths and is bringing the world economy to its knees. Moreover, situations of this kind are historically cyclical. The symptoms and treatment of infected patients are, for better or worse even for new viruses, always the same: more or less severe flu symptoms, isolation and full hygiene. By now man has learned how to manage epidemic situations, but deaths and negative effects continue to occur. What about technology? What effect has the actual technological progress we have achieved? In this review, we wonder about the role of robotics in the fight against COVID. It p…

The study aims to reflect on the training of future primary school teachers by starting from the use of the e-portfolio as an innovative tool to promote the acquisition of reflective and self-evaluation competence within the flipped classroom. The research involved 154 students of Primary Education Master’s Degree Course of the University of Palermo attending to the Docimology course during the academic year 2020/2021. This paper presents the theoretical assumptions objectives and operating methods of a path that made the use of the e-portfolio in flipped classroom to promote the development of docimological skills in higher education. It was hypothesized that the training intervention designed according to the principles of the flippmethodology and through the use of the e-portfolio would have contributed to the development of students’ self-evaluation skills during the 30 hours of the Docimology course.Settore M-PED/04 - Pedagogia Sperimentale

Nurturing Entrepreneurial Culture and Attitudes in Universities: Experiences at the University of Palermo

2016

The aim of this paper is to contribute in the debate about academic entrepreneurship and the role of universities focusing on the analysis of the long term process of establishing and running an university incubator, and on the relationship between perseverance and results in promoting the exploitation of academic research and contributing to cultural change in an area where entrepreneurial spirit is not part of tradition. The paper focuses on analysing the experience gained at the University of Palermo in promoting and supporting, for the last ten years, the creation of innovative business initiatives and academic start-ups through the incubator run by the Consorzio ARCA. The paper present…

OR18-01 Effect of Teprotumumab on Proptosis Reduction Across Various Demographic Sub-Groups

2020

Abstract Introduction: Teprotumumab, an insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor inhibitory monoclonal antibody, was recently shown to significantly reduce proptosis in patients with active, moderate-to-severe thyroid eye disease (TED) in phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials.1,2 Prior analyses have demonstrated a combined trial proptosis response (≥2 mm reduction) rate of 77.4% in the teprotumumab group and 14.9% in the placebo group after 24 weeks of therapy (p < 0.001).3 The current analysis was performed to investigate whether or not patient demographic characteristics influence the teprotumumab proptosis response. Methods: Data from two 24-week randomized, double-masked, placebo-cont…

SAT-429 Systemic Safety Analysis of Mycophenolate in Graves’ Orbitopathy

2020

Abstract Context The dual antiproliferative mechanism of mycophenolate appears to be beneficial in Graves’ orbitopathy (GO). Methods The safety data, which is of utmost importance in immunomodulation, from the two major randomized mycophenolate trials [“Chinese trial” (1) and “European Group on Graves’ Orbitopathy (EUGOGO) trial” (2)] and the original database of the EUGOGO trial were systematically analyzed. Treatment efficacy stratified by individual visual parameters of clinical disease activity and severity were also compared. Results A total of 129 adverse events (AE) involving 50 patients (29.4%) were noted among all mycophenolate-treated patients. Mycophenolate sodium plus intravenou…

Foro: sí a la Historia del Arte

2004

1992

SOBRE EL DINTEL DE LA PUERTA PRINCIPAL DEL LLAMADO "L'HORT DE CARRERES" DE CARCAIXENT (VALENCIA) SE ENCUENTRA UN TONDO DE PINTURA CERAMICA EN EL QUE SE REPRESENTA EL MARTIRIO DE SAN LORENZO. SU FORMATO CIRCULAR ES EXCEPCIONAL DENTRO DE LA PRODUCCION CERAMICA DEL PERIODO ACADEMICO CLASICISTA. ESTA FIRMADO POR JOSEP SANCHIS (DOCUMENTADO ENTRE 1804 Y 1829), PINTOR CERAMICO VINCULADO A LAS REALES FABRICAS DE AZULEJOS DE VALENCIA. ENCARGADO PROBABLEMENTE POR LORENZO CARRERES GILABERT, EL TONDO PARECE INSPIRADO EN EL FRESCO DEL MARTIRIO DE SAN VICENTE PINTADO POR BARTOLOME MATARANA ENTRE 1597 Y 1605 EN EL CRUCERO DE LA IGLESIA DEL COLEGIO DEL PATRIARCA DE VALENCIA, LO QUE SUPONE EL ACERCAMIENTO A…

TREND-DB—a transcriptome-wide atlas of the dynamic landscape of alternative polyadenylation

2020

AbstractAlternative polyadenylation (APA) profoundly expands the transcriptome complexity. Perturbations of APA can disrupt biological processes, ultimately resulting in devastating disorders. A major challenge in identifying mechanisms and consequences of APA (and its perturbations) lies in the complexity of RNA 3’end processing, involving poorly conserved RNA motifs and multi-component complexes consisting of far more than 50 proteins. This is further complicated in that RNA 3’end maturation is closely linked to transcription, RNA processing, and even epigenetic (histone/DNA/RNA) modifications. Here we present TREND-DB (http://shiny.imbei.uni-mainz.de:3838/trend-db), a resource cataloging…
