Tau anomalous magnetic moment form factor at Super B/Flavor factories

2008

The proposed high-luminosity B/Flavor factories offer new opportunities for the improved determination of the fundamental physical parameters of standard heavy leptons. Compared to the electron or the muon case, the magnetic properties of the $\tau$ lepton are largely unexplored. We show that the electromagnetic properties of the $\tau$, and in particular its magnetic form factor, may be measured competitively in these facilities, using unpolarized or polarized electron beams. Various observables of the $\tau$'s produced on top of the $\Upsilon$ resonances, such as cross-section and normal polarization for unpolarized electrons or longitudinal and transverse asymmetries for polarized beams,…

Muon reconstruction and identification with the Run II D0 detector

2013

We present an overview of the muon reconstruction and identification methods employed by the D0 Collaboration to analyze the Run II (2001-2011) ppbar data of the Fermilab Tevatron collider at sqrt s = 1.96 TeV. We discuss the performance of these methods, how it is measured using D0 data, and how it is properly modeled by the D0 simulation program. In its pseudorapidity acceptance, eta< 2, the muon system identifies high-pT muons (pT>10 GeV) with efficiencies ranging from 72% to 89%. Muons tracks are reconstructed in the D0 central tracking system with efficiencies ranging from 85% to 92% and with a typical relative momentum resolution of 10% for pT = 40 GeV. Isolation criteria reject…

Measurement of theϕη*distribution of muon pairs with masses between 30 and 500 GeV in10.4  fb−1ofpp¯collisions

2015

We present a measurement of the distribution of the variable phi(eta)* for muon pairs with masses between 30 and 500 GeV, using the complete run II data set collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. This corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 10.4 fb(-1) at root s = 1.96 TeV. The data are corrected for detector effects and presented in bins of dimuon rapidity and mass. The variable phi(eta)* probes the same physical effects as the Z/gamma* boson transverse momentum, but is less susceptible to the effects of experimental resolution and efficiency. These are the first measurements at any collider of the phi(eta)* distributions for dilepton masses aw…

Search for excited muons inpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2006

We present the results of a search for the production of an excited state of the muon, mu(*), in proton antiproton collisions at root s =1.96 TeV. The data have been collected with the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 380 pb(-1). We search for mu(*) in the process p (p) over bar ->mu(*)mu, with the mu(*) subsequently decaying to a muon plus photon. No excess above the standard model expectation is observed in data. Interpreting our data in the context of a model that describes mu(*) production by four-fermion contact interactions and mu(*) decay via electroweak processes, we set a 95% confidence level production cros…

The spin of the nucleon in deep inelastic lepton scattering experiments

1992

The current experimental status of the spin dependent structure functions as measured in polarized deep inelastic scattering of charged leptons from nucleons is reviewed. The proposals for new experiments at CERN, SLAC and HERA are discussed with special emphasis on the experiment of the Spin Muon collaboration at CERN which has started data taking.

Experiments on polarised lepton scattering off polarised nucleons

1992

Abstract The current experimental status of the spin dependent structure functions as measured in polarised deep inelastic scattering of charged leptons from nucleons is reviewed. The proposals for new experiments at SLAC and HERA are discussed. Special emphasis is put on the experiment of the Spin Muon Collaboration at CERN which has started taking data in 1991.

LAB observables for the muon polarization in K+->pi(+)mu(+)mu(-)

1999

We analyse the muon longitudinal polarization asymmetry \Delta_long in the decay K^+ --> \pi^+ \mu^+ mu^-. It is stressed that, since the muon helicities are not Lorentz-invariant quantities, the magnitude of \Delta_long depends in general on the reference frame. We consider the muon helicities in the LAB system, and study the sensitivity of the longitudinal polarization asymmetry to the flavour-mixing parameters in the Standard Model for stopped and in-flight decaying K^+. A similar analysis is carried out for the decay K_L --> \mu^+ \mu^-. We find that in both cases the asymmetry is diluted when increasing the energy of the decaying kaons.
