Electron-positron annihilation into three pions and the radiative return
2005
The Monte Carlo event generator PHOKHARA, which simulates hadron and muon production at electron-positron colliders through radiative return, has been extended to final states with three pions. A model for the form factor based on generalized vector dominance has been employed, which is consistent with presently available experimental observations.
Corrections to the fluxes of a Neutrino Factory
2002
In view of their physics goals, future neutrino factories from muon decay aim at an overall flux precision of ${\cal O}(1%)$ or better. We analytically study the QED radiative corrections to the neutrino differential distributions from muon decay. Kinematic uncertainties due to the divergence of the muon beam are considered as well. The resulting corrections to the neutrino flux turn out to be of order ${\cal O}(0.1%)$, safely below the required precision.
Muon-pair production by atmospheric muons in cosmoALEPH
2006
Data from a dedicated cosmic ray run of the ALEPH detector were used in a study of muon trident production, i.e., muon pairs produced by muons. Here the overburden and the calorimeters are the target materials while the ALEPH time projection chamber provides the momentum measurements. A theoretical estimate of the muon trident cross section is obtained by developing a Monte Carlo simulation for muon propagation in the overburden and the detector. Two muon trident candidates were found to match the expected theoretical pattern. The observed production rate implies that the nuclear form factor cannot be neglected for muon tridents.
Rapidity dependence of particle production in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions
2002
We compute the rapidity dependence of particle and transverse energy production in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions at various beam energies and atomic numbers using the perturbative QCD + saturation model. The distribution is a broad gaussian near $y=0$ but the rapid increase of particle production with the beam energy will via energy conservation strongly constrain the rapidity distribution at large $y$.
The GDH experiment at MAMI
1999
Abstract The Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule connects the helicity dependent photoabsorption cross section with the anomalous magnetic moment of the nucleon. The GDH-collaboration is measuring the total cross section of circularly polarized photons with longitudinally polarized protons to check this sum rule experimentally to do a further progress in the investigation of the spin structure of the nucleon. The experiment has been started using the polarized electron beam of the Mainz electron accelerator MAMI in the energy range 200 – 800 MeV and will be continued at the Bonn accelerator ELSA up to an energy of about 3 GeV. We have finished the datav taking period at MAMI for the proton…
Further considerations concerning claims for deeply bound kaon atoms
2008
We briefly review the experiments of KEK and FINUDA, that claim evidence for deeply bound kaon states, from the perspective of recent theoretical papers and experiments that provide an alternative explanation of the peaks seen. At the same time we rebate recent criticisms raised against our theoretical results.
TandFasymmetries inπ0photoproduction on the proton
2016
The γp→π0p reaction was studied at laboratory photon energies from 425 to 1445 MeV with a transversely polarized target and a longitudinally polarized beam. The beam-target asymmetry F was measured for the first time and new high precision data for the target asymmetry T were obtained. The experiment was performed at the photon tagging facility of the Mainz Microtron (MAMI) using the Crystal Ball and TAPS photon spectrometers. The polarized cross sections were expanded in terms of associated Legendre functions and compared to recent predictions from several partial-wave analyses. The impact of the new data on our understanding of the underlying partial-wave amplitudes and baryon resonance c…

2012
This Letter describes a model-independent search for the production of new resonant states in photon + jet events in 2.11 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV. We compare the photon ...
The End Point Tagger physics program at A2@MAMI
2017
The A2-Collaboration uses a beam of real photons from the tagged photon facility at the electron accelerator MAMI in Mainz, Germany, to study photo-produced mesons. A new tagging device allows access to the higher photon beam energy range of 1.4 to 1.6 GeV. A large dataset containing more than 6 million η ′ and roughly 29 million ω decays has been obtained. Analyses are ongoing, including a study of the cusp effect and Dalitz plot in η ′ → ηπ 0 π 0 , giving insight to the π π scattering length and the structure of the ηππ system, as well as the measurement of the electromagnetic transition form factor in η ′ → e + e − γ , a cross section measurement of γ p → 3 π 0 , and branching ratio anal…

2010
We report a search for diphoton events with large missing transverse energy produced in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV. The data were collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab ...
