Proposal for SPS beam time for the baby MIND and TASD neutrino detector prototypes

2014

The design, construction and testing of neutrino detector prototypes at CERN are ongoing activities. This document reports on the design of solid state baby MIND and TASD detector prototypes and outlines requirements for a test beam at CERN to test these, tentatively planned on the H8 beamline in the North Area, which is equipped with a large aperture magnet. It is hoped that this will allow for the current proposal to be considered in light of the recently approved projects related to neutrino activities with the SPS in the North Area in the medium term 2015-2020. The design, construction and testing of neutrino detector prototypes at CERN are ongoing activities. This document reports on t…

Measurement of the Cross Section for $e^{+}e^{-}\to$ hadrons at Energies from 2.2324 to 3.6710 GeV

2021

Based on electron-positron collision data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider II storage rings, the value of $R\equiv\sigma(e^{+}e^{-}\to$hadrons)/$\sigma(e^{+}e^{-}\to\mu^{+}\mu^{-})$ is measured at 14 center-of-mass energies from 2.2324 to 3.6710 GeV. The resulting uncertainties are less than $3.0\%$, and are dominated by systematic uncertainties.

Physics with Low-Energy Muons at a Neutrino Factory Complex

2001

The physics potential of an intense source of low-energy muons is studied. Such a source is a necessary stage towards building the neutrino factories and muon colliders which are being considered at present. The CERN Neutrino Factory could deliver muon beams with intensities 3-4 orders of magnitude higher than available now, with large freedom in the choice of the time structure. Low-energy muon physics contributes to many fields of basic research, including rare muon decays, i.e., decays that do not conserve muon number, measurements of fundamental constants, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, determination of the Lorentz structure of the weak interaction, QED tests, CPT tests, proton and…

Measuring Leptonic CP Violation with a Water Cerenkov

2006

In this talk, we present the physics case for a megaton Water Cerenkov detector in addressing some of the still pending questions in neutrino oscillations physics, particularly the measurement of leptonic CP violation. We compare different future beams that could profit from a water detector and analyse, for the case $\theta_{13} \approx 3^\circ$ (the limit that can be reached by under-construction experiments), the signal-to-background rate for a $\beta$-beam setup with the radioactive ions accelerated to $\gamma = 350$.

The $W_R$ production in $e\gamma$ collisions

1995

We consider the production of a single right-handed gauge boson $W_R$ in the high-energy $e^-\gamma$ collisions with polarized beams. If the associated neutrino is light, the reaction will give the best discovery reach for $W_R$ in the Next Linear Collider.

Semiclassical geons at particle accelerators

2014

We point out that in certain four-dimensional extensions of general relativity constructed within the Palatini formalism stable self-gravitating objects with a discrete mass and charge spectrum may exist. The incorporation of nonlinearities in the electromagnetic field may effectively reduce their mass spectrum by many orders of magnitude. As a consequence, these objects could be within (or near) the reach of current particle accelerators. We provide an exactly solvable model to support this idea.
