Aperture-edge scattering in MeV ion-beam lithography. I. Scattering from a straight Ta aperture edge
2009
Collimators are widely used to define MeV ion beams. Recent studies have shown the capability of collimators to define beams of MeV ions with sub-100nm dimensions. Such nanometer beams have potential applications in MeV ion-beam lithography, which is the only maskless technique capable of producing extremely high aspect-ratio micro- and nanostructrures, as well as in high-resolution MeV ion-beam-based tomography. The ion scattering from the collimator edges that define the beam can be a resolution-restricting factor in these applications. Scattering processes at edges are difficult to study using conventional simulation codes because of the complicated geometry. In this part of the work, th…
Ion production from solid state laser ion sources.
2010
Laser ion sources based on resonant excitation and ionization of atoms are well-established tools for selective and efficient production of radioactive ion beams. Recent developments are focused on the use of the state-of-the-art all solid-state laser systems. To date, 35 elements of the periodic table are available from laser ion sources based on tunable Ti:sapphire lasers. Recent progress in this field regarding the establishment of suitable optical excitation schemes for Ti:sapphire lasers are reported.
The effect of gas mixing and biased disc voltage on the preglow transient of electron cyclotron resonance ion source
2012
The effect of gas mixing and biased disc voltage on the preglow of electron cyclotron resonance ion source plasma has been studied with the AECR-U type 14 GHz ion source. It was found that gas mixing has a significant effect on the preglow. The extracted transient beam currents and efficiency of the heavier species increase, while the currents and efficiency of the lighter species decrease when gas mixing is applied. The effect of the biased disc was found to be pronounced in continuous operation mode in comparison to preglow. The data provide information on the time scales of the plasma processes explaining the effects of gas mixing and biased disc. The results also have implications on pr…
Integrated Modeling of the Beam Formation and Extraction in the Linac4 Hydrogen Negative Ion Source
2018
In order to make the predictive simulation tools for the extracted beam current and emittance in the Linac4 H− ion source, we have launched the development of the integrated model for the H− ion beam formation and extraction process. More specifically, our 3D KEIO-Beam Formation and eXtraction (3D KEIO-BFX) is coupled with the NINJA, IBSIMU and TRAVEL. The extracted H− ion beam current and co-extracted electron current obtained by the integrated model have shown reasonable agreement with the experiments. peerReviewed

Nuclear charge radii of potassium isotopes beyond N=28
2014
We report on the measurement of optical isotope shifts for 38, 39, 42, 44, 46–51 K relative to 47 K from which changes in the nuclear mean square charge radii across the N = 28 shell closure are deduced. The investigation was carried out by bunched-beam collinear laser spectroscopy at the CERN-ISOLDE radioactive ion-beam facility. Mean square charge radii are now known from 37K to 51K, covering all ν f7/2-shell as well as all νp3/2-shell nuclei. These measurements, in conjunction with those of Ca, Cr, Mn and Fe, provide a first insight into the Z dependence of the evolution of nuclear size above the shell closure at N = 28
Measurement of branching fractions and charge asymmetries for exclusive B decays to charmonium
2005
We report measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries of exclusive decays of neutral and charged B mesons into two-body final states containing a charmonium state and a light strange meson. The charmonium mesons considered are J/Psi, Psi(2S) and Chi_c1, and the light meson is either K or K*. We use a sample of about 124 million BBbar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.
Positron Annihilation in Defected Monocrystalline Gold Samples
2005
Angular distribution of the positron annihilation quanta was measured for monocrystalline gold samples, oriented in (110) and (111) directions. The samples were deformed by elongation for different deformation degrees. The S and W parameters as a function of deformation degree of the sample were determined. It was found that the dynamics of the dislocations and vacancy generation during the sliding of some crystallographic planes, depends on the crystallographic direction.

Lisäksi arvioitiin mallin ennustamaa absorpoitunutta annosta vesi- ja piifantomeissa, sekä laskettiin viitearvo absorpoituneen annoksen ja elektronivuon suhteelle. Lasketut annosprofiilit…
Multipactor Mitigation in Coaxial Lines by Means of Permanent Magnets
2014
The main aim of this paper is the analysis of the feasibility of employing permanent magnets for the multipactor mitigation in a coaxial waveguide. First, the study of a coaxial line immersed in a uniform axial magnetic field shows that multipactor can be suppressed at any RF if the external magnetic field is strong enough. Both theoretical simulations and experimental tests validate this statement. Next, multipactor breakdown of a coaxial line immersed in a hollow cylindrical permanent magnet is analyzed. Numerical simulations show that multipactor can be suppressed in a certain RF range. The performed experimental test campaign demonstrates the capability of the magnet to avoid the multip…
