Abstract. Sources and Boundaries of Institutional and Linguistic Normativity. Towards a Critical Social Ontology.

The talk explores the problem of how it is possible to rationally judge an institutionally justified act if, from Hegel to contemporary social ontology, we accept that human reason is necessarily embedded in particular lifeforms and institutional settings. The talk argues that there is a specific, moral criterion of fairness built in every institutional and communicative act, which requires us to respect human dignity in each one of our institutional or communicative acts, and that this criterion can be justified through a linguistic, deflationary reinterpretation of Kant's categorical imperative of universalization of reasons for action.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN PRE-ADOLESCENT IMMIGRANTS OF SECOND GENERATION

The goal of this research has investigated if individual levels of EI in adolescent immigrants of second generation are related to different indicators of psychological adjustment such as individual well-being and peer relationships. Falling is the main cause of domestic accidents and fatal injuries to seniors at home. In this paper, we describe the design process for a new pervasive technology (CIRDO). The aim of this technology is to detect falls (via audio and video sensors) and to alert the elderly's family or caregivers. Two complementary studies were performed. Does self-acceptance captured by life narratives and self-report predict mental health? A longitudinal multi-method approach

Abstract We aimed to investigate the validity of different self-acceptance measures to predict mental health. Self-acceptance and negative life events, assessed via self-report and rated from life narratives (N = 149), served as predictors of mental health at baseline (T1) and four years later (T2). Path models showed distinguishable, complementary effects of self-reports and other-ratings. A moderate congruence of self- and other-ratings of self-acceptance was observed. Final disposal of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) from nuclear power plants (NPPs) is an ethical issue with implications within and across generations. We address this issue from the perspective of nuclear communities that host nuclear waste disposal sites. These are primarily the communities that face injustice due to the potential radiological risks.
