Residential satisfaction and spatial configurations in a periurban area

2011

Since the 1960s, French cities are concerned with an urban sprawl process. This urban sprawl leads to the emergence of a particular space located at the interface between the city and the countryside: the periurban. The social, morphological or the spatial practices of its inhabitants give the suburban a particular singularity and specificity. It is a space of contradiction that attracts both because of the "natural" living environment that it provides to households, but also because of its proximity to the city and the opportunities related to accessibility to various urban amenities. To understand more precisely this enthusiasm for periurban areas, this thesis proposes to explore the indiv…

Accessible film festivals: a pilot study

2020

This work provides an overview of the state of accessibility at film festivals all over the world, identifies its selected audiences and also encourages innovative solutions in relation to linguistic and technical issues emerged during the processes of subtitling. The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 has resulted in many film festivals all over the world being either cancelled, postponed or moved to online platforms. What has arisen is the question whether and to what extent people with sensorial disabilities, in particular deaf and hard-of-hearing and blind and visually impaired people, have been left behind or have been part of projects of inclusion. The accessibility of forms of…

Towards a Sustainable Use of Architectural Heritage: How to Assess Accessibility and the User’s Role

2022

Scientific communities and institutional bodies are supporting many shared efforts towards improving accessibility to architectural heritage, in the awareness that it provides the basis for inclusion and enhancement. Accessibility is related to the wider tendency toward a conscious and sustainable use of the architectural heritage, considered as a multifaceted tool for its conservation. This has also highlighted the user’s role, which is paramount in order to reach and increase sustainable processes in the field of architectural heritage, as well as in all the technological processes. The user should be active in his/her relationships with the built heritage, in a multi-sensorial way and in…

40 years of time geography: from the conceptual framework to the GI Science contributions

2011

International audience; Social scientists studying the effects of space on human behavior usually consider the time dimension as an external factor. Activities are analyzed in an aggregate sense such that the process of individual decision-making is depicted as the single case of "the average individual." In order to link efficiently space and time dimensions, Torsten Hägerstrand defined in 1970's the concept of Time Geography and thereby founded the school of Swedish geography. His conceptual framework was destined to change the course of history in the social sciences. After 40 years, this success has transcended scientific boundaries. In this paper, we propose to review the evolution of …

Simplifying instructional texts in French and German Easy Language – Comparaison of Easy Language rules and analysis of their limits

2022

Question de recher…

2021

The essay illustrates the methodological process used to analyze the state of conservation and accessibility issues of the church of San Domenico in Palermo, built from scratch from the 17th century. XVII, on medieval pre-existences. Furthermore, the essay presents a proposal for the restoration and accessibility of the church itself, where there is a difference in height between the floor of the church and that of the square of several steps. The research was conducted within the Restoration and Theory and History of Restoration Laboratory and involved the students of the LM4 course in Architecture of the Palermo Department. The suggested solution was to insert an inclined ramp for everyon…
