Näkövammaisten apuvälineiden käytettävyys

2015

2022

The paper presents an interdisciplinary reflection on the potential for sustainable development of communities and their cultural landscapes expressed by UNESCO Buffer Zones in the Mediterranean, with the intention of transforming their widespread perception as mere tools of protection and urban planning into concrete integrated proposals for protection and enhancement, and also taking into account the role of museums in promoting the understanding of cultural heritage and the maturation of an awareness of the value of such actions. With reference to the 2004 guidelines UNESCO and starting from the evaluation of some management plans, such as that of the Arab-Norman itinerary in Palermo and…

Senior Housing as a Living Environment That Supports Well-Being in Old Age

2020

Background: In different parts of the world new models of senior housing have rapidly appeared, which indicates that existing housing and care models are not fulfilling the hopes and needs of current and new generations of older people. Material and Methods: This qualitative study focuses on one type of communal senior housing complex located in a mid-sized town in Central Finland. The complex was designed to have accessible low-maintenance apartments and common spaces, and to be near easily accessible green spaces, amenities, services, and public transport. The complex has a part-time community coordinator. The minimum age limit is set at 55 years. The data consists of 36 qualitative inter…

Impact of high-pressure processing on the stability and bioaccessibility of bioactive compounds in Clementine mandarin juice and its cytoprotective e…

2020

Mandarin juice is a rich source of antioxidant bioactive compounds. While the content and profile of bioactives are known, the impact of high-pressure processing (HPP) on their stability and bioaccessibility (BA) is unknown, but may allow obtaining safe, nutritious, and fresh-tasting juices with highly extractable bioactive compounds. The stability and BA of bioactive antioxidant compounds in untreated and HPP-treated (400 MPa/40 °C/1 min) Clementine mandarin juices, and the cytoprotective effect of its bioaccessible fractions (BF) obtained after simulated gastrointestinal digestion against H2O2-induced oxidative stress in differentiated Caco-2 cells were investigated. The BF of HPP-treated…

Towards a Sustainable Use of Architectural Heritage: How to Assess Accessibility and the User’s Role

2022

Scientific communities and institutional bodies are supporting many shared efforts towards improving accessibility to architectural heritage, in the awareness that it provides the basis for inclusion and enhancement. Accessibility is related to the wider tendency toward a conscious and sustainable use of the architectural heritage, considered as a multifaceted tool for its conservation. This has also highlighted the user’s role, which is paramount in order to reach and increase sustainable processes in the field of architectural heritage, as well as in all the technological processes. The user should be active in his/her relationships with the built heritage, in a multi-sensorial way and in…

A Universal Health Care System? Unmet Need for Medical Care Among Regular and Irregular Immigrants in Italy

2017

Italy has a universal health care system that covers, in principle, the whole resident population, irrespective of citizenship and legal status. This study calculates the prevalence of unmet need for medical care among Italian citizens, regular and irregular immigrants and estimates logistic regression models to assess whether differences by citizenship and legal status hold true once adjusting for potential confounders. The analysis is based on two Surveys on Income and Living Conditions of Italian households and households with foreigners. Controlling for various factors, the odds of experiencing unmet need for medical care are 27% higher for regular immigrants than for Italian citizens a…

Nutrition care of cancer patients-A survey among physicians and nurses

2018

In order to quantify gaps in the provision of medical nutrition care in Germany and pinpoint specific areas of need, we collected data from patients, nurses and physicians. The results from the patient survey were published separately. A total of 506 participants from 69 certified centers answered the questions developed in cooperation with representatives from different professional groups (physicians, nurses and dietitians). Only about a third of participants reported that their institution provides structured pathways to nutritional counseling. 70.1% of those physicians reported that there was a specialist in nutrition available at their center while only 55.8% of nurses agreed. Only a q…

Progetto di restauro, per la fruizione e la valorizzazione della chiesa di Santa Maria in Valverde

2021

The essay presents the methodological process used for the analysis of the state of conservation and of the accessibility problems present in the church of Santa Maria in Valverde in Palermo, built in the 17th century. XVII, above previous stratifications. Furthermore, the essay shows a proposal for restoration and accessibility to the same church which in the past had a churchyard that was eliminated after the mid-twentieth century to connect the street levels. The research was conducted within the Restoration and Theory and History of Restoration Laboratory and involved the students of the LM4 course in Architecture of the Palermo Department. The suggested solution was to rebuild a new ch…
