The interrelationship between metal concentrations in mosses and their surroundings prompts research toward examining their accumulation properties, as it is particularly important for their usage in biomonitoring studies that use mosses. In this study, the kinetics of elemental sorption in three moss species (Pleurozium schreberi, Dicranum polysetum, and Sphagnum fallax) were investigated under laboratory conditions. In this paper, the suitability of HYDRUS-2D model to predict the average soil water content in the root zone of potato crop irrigated with subsurface drip irrigation plant, is initially assessed on the basis of a field study. Then, the model is tested to predict the salt distribution around a buried emitter, when two different water qualities (i.e. electrical conductivity of 1.0 dS m-1 and 4.0 dS m-1), are used during the growing season (treatments T1 and T2). Supercurrent-induced charge-spin conversion in spin-split superconductors

We study spin-polarized quasiparticle transport in a mesoscopic superconductor with a spin-splitting field in the presence of coflowing supercurrent. In such a system, the nonequilibrium state is characterized by charge, spin, energy, and spin-energy modes. Here we show that in the presence of both spin splitting and supercurrent, all these modes are mutually coupled. As a result, the supercurrent can convert charge imbalance, which in the presence of spin splitting decays on a relatively short scale, to a long-range spin accumulation decaying only via inelastic scattering. AbstractMany organisms disperse in groups, yet this process is understudied in viruses. Recent work, however, has uncovered different types of collective infectious units, all of which lead to the joint delivery of multiple viral genome copies to target cells, favoring co-infections. Collective spread of viruses can occur through widely different mechanisms, including virion aggregation driven by specific extracellular components, cloaking inside lipid vesicles, encasement in protein matrices, or binding to cell surfaces. Zastosowanie badań biomonitoringowych do oceny zanieczyszczenia metalami ciężkimi wybranych ekosystemów

Celem przeprowadzonych badań był biomonitoring zanieczyszczenia wybranymi metalami ciężkimi: Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd, Ni i Pb terenu w pobliżu zbiornika Janów (woj. świętokrzyskie) oraz wody w niecce zbiornika. Metale ciężkie w matrycach środowiskowych, takich jak glony Palmaria palmata, mchy Pleurozium schreberi i gleba, oznaczano metodą absorpcyjnej spektrometrii atomowej. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań i wyznaczonych współczynników akumulacji względnej (RAF) dla eksponowanych próbek glonów wykazano niejednorodne zanieczyszczenie wód zbiornika, szczególnie miedzią i kadmem. Μετρήσεις φυσικής ροής μεθανίου και διοξειδίου του άνθρακα από το έδαφος πραγματοποιήθηκαν με τη μέθοδο συγκέντρωσης θαλάμου στην περιοχή Λακκί της Καλδέρας της Νισύρου, καλύπτοντας έκταση περίπου 0.06 km2 συμπεριλαμβάνοντας τις περιοχές Καμινάκια, Στέφανος και Αλέξανδρο όπου παρατηρείται έντονη ατμιδική δραστηριότητας. Οι τιμές ροής που μετρήθηκαν σε 77 σημεία κυμαίνονται από –3.4 μέχρι 1420 mg m-2 d-1 για το CH4 και από 0.1, μέχρι 383 g m-2 d-1 για το CO2. Στις τρεις ατμιδικές περιοχές παρουσιάζονται διαφορετικοί ρυθμοί διαφυγής μεθανίου, ιδίως στα Καμινάκια όπου προέκυψαν οι μεγαλύτερες τιμές ροής.
