Molecular Recognition via Hydrogen Bonding at the Air−Water Interface:  An Isotherm and Fourier Transform Infrared Reflection Spectroscopy Study

Molecular recognition in Langmuir monolayers at the air−water interface as a function of headgroup orientation and substrate using isotherms and in-situ Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) reflection spectroscopy has been investigated. Isotherm measurements show that urea and 2,4,6-triaminopyrimidine (TAP) are specifically bound to barbituric acid lipid monolayers. As expected, TAP causes a larger shift in the limiting area of the isotherms than urea due to steric requirements. The peak positions of the CH stretching vibrations of the barbituric acid lipids indicate that the alkyl chains of barbituric acid lipids 1−3 are in a close-packed all-trans conformation both before and after the reco…

The molecular mechanism for the inverse electron demand 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of nitrones with vinyl ethers has been characterized using density functional theory methods with the B3LYP functional and the 6−31G* basis set. Relative rates, regioselectivity, endo/exo stereoselectivity, Lewis acid catalyst and solvent effects are analyzed and discussed. Four reactive channels associated with the formation of two pairs of diasteromeric regioisomers have been characterized. Analysis of the geometries of the corresponding transition structures shows that the reaction in the gas phase takes place by an asynchronous concerted mechanism. Comparison of linear and hyperbranched polyether lipids for liposome shielding by 18F-radiolabeling and positron emission tomography

Multifunctional and highly biocompatible polyether structures play a key role in shielding liposomes from degradation in the bloodstream, providing also multiple functional groups for further attachment of targeting moieties. In this work hyperbranched polyglycerol (hbPG) bearing lipids with long alkyl chain anchor are evaluated with respect to steric stabilization of liposomes. Improvement of charge-transfer indices for multifunctional amino acids: Application to lysozyme

Valence topological Charge-Transfer (CT) indices are applied to the calculation of pH at the isoelectric point (pI). The model is generalized for molecules with heteroatoms. The ability of the indices for the description of molecular charge distribution is established by comparing them with the pI of 21 amino acids. Linear correlation models are obtained. The CT indices improve multivariable regression equations for pI. The variance decreases by 95%. No superimposition of the corresponding G(k)-J(k) and G(k)(V)-J(k)(V) pairs is observed in most fits, which diminishes the risk of collinearity. Crystal structure of N-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)phenylalanyldehydroalanine isopropyl ester (Boc–Phe–ΔAla–OiPr)

In the crystal structure of the de­hydro­dipeptide (Boc-Phe-ΔAla-OiPr), the mol­ecule has a trans configuration of the N-methyl­amide group. Its geometry is different from saturated peptides but is in excellent agreement with other de­hydro­alanine compounds. In the crystal, an N—H⋯O hydrogen bond links the mol­ecules in a herringbone packing arrangement.

Planar-Chiral 1,1 '-Diboryl Metallocenes: Diastereoselective Synthesis from Boryl Cyclopentadienides and Spin Density Analysis of a Diborylcobaltocene

International audience; The reaction of nonsubstituted alkali metal cyclopentadienides with haloboranes leads to similar to 90:10 mixtures of isomeric diene products that can be deprotonated to give simple boryl cyclopentadienides. We extended this transformation to the sterically hindered lithium tert-butylcyclopentadienide 1 using FBMe(s)2 (Mes = 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) and ClBCy2 as electrophiles. The boryl group is selectively introduced in the remote position to minimize steric congestion. The new boryl dienes are obtained as mixtures of isomers, and subsequent deprotonation with MeLi or LiHMDS affords the lithium 1,3-disubstituted cyclopentadienides Sa,b in yields over 95%. Sterol Composition in Infant Formulas and Estimated Intake.

Sterol contents in infant formulas (IFs) from the European market were determined, and their intakes by infants between 0 and 6 months were evaluated. Total animal sterols (mg/100 mL) ranged from 1.71 to 5.46, cholesterol being the main animal sterol (1.46-5.1). In general, cholesterol and desmosterol were lower than the human milk (HM) values indicated by other authors. Total plant sterol (mg/100 mL) ranged from 3.1 to 5.0. β-Sitosterol, the most abundant phytosterol, ranged from 1.82 to 3.01, followed by campesterol (0.72-1.15), stigmasterol (0.27-0.53), and brassicasterol (0.14-0.28). The Sensor Kinase DctS Forms a Tripartite Sensor Unit with DctB and DctA for Sensing C4-Dicarboxylates in Bacillus subtilis

The DctSR two-component system of Bacillus subtilis controls the expression of the aerobic C4-dicarboxylate transporter DctA. Deletion of DctA leads to an increased dctA expression. The inactivation of DctB, an extracellular binding protein, is known to inhibit the expression of dctA. Here, interaction between the sensor kinase DctS and the transporter DctA as well as the binding protein DctB was demonstrated in vivo using streptavidin (Strep) or His protein interaction experiments (mSPINE or mHPINE), and the data suggest that DctA and DctB act as cosensors for DctS. Molecular recognition in biotin-streptavidin systems and analogues at the air-water interface

Abstract Specific interaction between biotin and the protein streptavidin in monolayers of synthetic lipids with biotin headgroups has been shown to lead to formation of highly ordered two-dimensional streptavidin crystals. The same behaviour is observed when using desthiobiotin as lipid headgroup which exhibits a significantly lower binding constant compared with biotin (5 × 10 13 M -1 compared with 10 15 M -1 ). This offers the possibility of detaching competetively the 2D crystalline streptavidin layer by addition of free biotin to the aqueous phase.
