We demonstrate the nonlinear condensation of classical optical waves. The condensation is observed directly, as a function of nonlinearity and wave kinetic energy, in a self-defocusing photorefractive crystal.
Lattice and electronic contributions to the refractive index of CuWO4

We report an investigation of the refractive index dispersion and anisotropy in CuWO4 by means of interference measurements in two extinction directions from mid infrared to the visible region of the energy spectrum. The analysis of the refractive index dispersion yields ϵ(∞) = 4.5(1) for light polarization parallel to the c-axis and ϵ(∞) = 5.3(1) with respect to the other extinction axis. In addition, we report reflectance measurements carried out from the far infrared to the near ultraviolet to study the lattice and electronic contributions to the refractive index of CuWO4. We investigate the lattice dynamical and dielectric properties of MgO single crystals and powders by measurements in the mid- and far-infrared frequency region under high pressures, ranging up to 21.7 GPa. The shift of the restrahlen region is used to determine the pressure dependence of the transverse and longitudinal optical modes. The analysis of the refractive index in the mid- and far-infrared region allowed us to obtain the pressure behavior of the static and electronic dielectric constants. Reduced efficiency roll-off in light-emitting diodes enabled by quantum dot–conducting polymer nanohybrids

We demonstrate QLEDs implementing wider active layers (50 nm) based on QD–conducting polymer nanohybrids, which exhibit a stable operational device performance across a wide range of current densities and brightness. A comparative study reveals that the significant suppression of efficiency roll-off in the high current density regime is primarily attributed to a sufficient charge carrier distribution over the wider active layer and improved charge carrier balance within QDs enabled by the hybridization of QDs with conducting polymers. Tailored conjugated polymer Langmuir-Schafer thin films in sensing transistors

Organic Thin Film Transistors (OTFTs) have been fabricated, in a standard bottom gate configuration, with Langmuir-Schäfer (LS) or cast thin films of regioregular poly[1,4-(2,5-dioctyloxyphenylene)-2,5-thiophene], synthesized via an organometallic protocol, as active layers. The transistors electrical characterization has evidenced that LS based devices exhibit better performance level than cast film ones. Appealing perspectives for newly substituted conjugated polymers in OTFT sensing devices are discussed.

BACKGROUND: Congestive heart failure (CHF) is associated with decreased exercise tolerance, alterations in body fluid balance and activation of neurohumoral and inflammatory pathways. The remediation of the highly contaminated site around the former chemical plant of ACNA (near Savona) in Northern Italy is a top priority in Italy. The aim of the present work was to contribute in finding innovative and environmental-friendly technology to remediate soils from the ACNA contaminated site. Repeatability of in vitro power profile measurements for multifocal contact lenses

Abstract Purpose To evaluate the repeatability of an optical device (NIMO TR1504, Lambda-X, Belgium) for measuring multifocal contact lens power profiles. Methods The NIMO TR1504 was used to measure power profiles 30 times for each of 10 different contact lenses from 4 major companies. All contact lenses were labelled as −3 D for distance vision; half were for high addition and half for low addition. The optical zone in all measurements was set to 3-mm radius.
