A genome based vision of multi-agent systems
2011
A set of software agents can be programmed to provide a large but finite set of services, often defined during design phase. After an evolution of the external environment, the pre-defined services could be unable to satisfy the requested quality. In this work it is proposed an agent framework capable to adapt the agents in order to improve the quality of services provided by an agent society in correspondence with a modification of the external environment. These agents are based on a biologically inspired structure (genome), that de- fines all their behaviors and knowledges. The effectiveness of the approach is proved by a set of successful experimental results
The eXtensible Dynamic Presentation Manager for content adaptation
2008
Human Computer Interaction studies deals with systems and tools that are able to improve user experience during interaction with computer. For this purpose, modern web application are expected to supply multimodal and multi-channel access, adaptivity and transcoding features. We will present in this work the eXtensible Dynamic Presentation Manager (XDPM) which is a set of innovative tools that support the eXtensible Presentation Language (XPL) in the adaptation of contents to different working contexts. The adaptation is performed according to the delivery context information which have been formalized by means of a profiler system. A profile holds information about the specific access devi…
A fog-based hybrid intelligent system for energy saving in smart buildings
2019
In recent years, the widespread diffusion of pervasive sensing devices and the increasing need for reducing energy consumption have encouraged research in the energy-aware management of smart environments. Following this direction, this paper proposes a hybrid intelligent system which exploits a fog-based architecture to achieve energy efficiency in smart buildings. Our proposal combines reactive intelligence, for quick adaptation to the ever-changing environment, and deliberative intelligence, for performing complex learning and optimization. Such hybrid nature allows our system to be adaptive, by reacting in real time to relevant events occurring in the environment and, at the same time, …
The four types of self-adaptive systems: A metamodel
2017
The basic ideas of self-adaptive systems are not a novelty in computer science. There are plenty of systems that are able of monitoring their operative context to take run-time decisions. However, more recently a new research discipline is trying to provide a common framework for collecting theory, methods, middlewares, algorithms and tools for engineering such software systems. The aim is to collect and classify existing approaches, coming from many different research areas. The objective of this work is providing a unified metamodel for describing the various categories of adaptation.
Un'idea di Proust. Conversazione con Suso Cecchi d'Amico
2021
