Correcting AVHRR Long Term Data Record V3 estimated LST from orbital drift effects
2012
Abstract NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) satellite series is known to suffer from what is known as the orbital drift effect. The Long Term Data Record (LTDR [Pedelty et al., 2007]), which provides AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) data from these satellites for the 80s and the 90s, is also affected by this orbital drift. To correct this effect on Land Surface Temperature (LST) time series, a novel method is presented here, which consists in adjusting retrieved LST time series on the basis of statistical information extracted from the time series themselves. This method is as simple and straightforward as possible, in order to be implemented easily for s…
Intricate decision making : ambivalences and barriers when fulfilling an advance directive

Yet, a majority deem it of utmost importance to ensure their wishes are followed through in case they are …
Electrochemical Abatement of Organic Pollutants in Water by Electro- Fenton with Natural Heterogeneous Catalysts Under Pressure
2020
In recent decades, electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) have proved as alternative technologies to conventional processes. Indeed, EAOPs can often allow to treat wastewater containing toxic and POPs. Among them, electro-Fenton (EF) is considered particularly promising for the treatment of recalcitrant organics, since it presents various advantages, including high abatements for many organic pollutants, simplicity of equipment and operations, relatively low cost and low consumption of chemicals. Recently, the utilization of some natural heterogeneous catalysts was proposed in order to avoid some disadvantages of the conventional EF process. In this frame, in this work EF proc…
MANUFACTURING E-MARKETPLACES: INNOVATIVE TOOLS FOR THE EXTENDED ENTERPRISE
2005
This Chapter introduces the research carried out under the research program titled “Distributed process and production planning in manufacturing enterprise networks” and funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) under the program PRIN2001. The research program aimed at developing an innovative concept of neutral linear e-marketplace able to support manufacturing enterprises networks in transactional, information sharing and exchange and collaborative relationship. The Chapter discusses the needs of innovative tools for supporting the new paradigm of the “extended enterprise” showing how the e-marketplace concept, when specific added value services are desig…
Informal caregiving burden in advanced non-small cell lung cancer: the HABIT study.
2007
Introduction This study's aim was to assess economic data regarding the home assistance burden for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients in Italy. Patients and Methods One hundred four NSCLC patients in second-line chemotherapy (2LC) or in supportive therapy (ST) were enrolled in 18 Italian oncology departments and were observed for 3 months. The main caregiver's workload was assessed monthly by a task scale; other caregivers' activities were also registered. Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status was assessed by physicians, and patients completed the Lung Cancer Symptoms (LCS) subscale. Formal caregiving time was valued according to market prices; informal car…
The influence of the processing temperature on gamma curing of epoxy resins for the production of advanced composites
2007
Abstract Gamma radiation curing of an epoxy monomer, in the presence of an iodonium salt, as initiator, is studied. Systems have been polymerized at the same irradiation dose and dose rate and at different processing temperatures. The experimental results show that all the irradiated materials exhibit a latent reactivity, undergoing toward an increase of crosslinking density if they are thermally cured after irradiation. The results indicate that the processing temperature affects both the crosslinking density after irradiation and the sensibility to the post-irradiation thermal treatment.
Atmospheric correction of optical imagery from MODIS and Reanalysis atmospheric products
2010
article i nfo In this paper we analyze the differences obtained in the atmospheric correction of optical imagery covering bands located in the Visible and Near Infra-Red (VNIR), Short-Wave Infra-Red (SWIR) and Themal-Infrared (TIR) spectral regions when atmospheric profiles extracted from different sources are used. In particular, three sensors were used, Compact High Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (CHRIS), Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection radiometer (ASTER) and Landsat5 Thematic Mapper (TM), whereas four atmospheric profiles sources were considered: i) local soundings launched near the sensor overpass time, ii) Moderate Resolution Radiometer (MODIS) atmospheric profiles…
Soil emissivity and reflectance spectra measurements
2009
We present an analysis of the laboratory reflectance and emissivity spectra of 11 soil samples collected on different field campaigns carried out over a diverse suite of test sites in Europe, North Africa, and South America from 2002 to 2008. Hemispherical reflectance spectra were measured from 2.0 to 14 microm with a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, and x-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) was used to determine the mineralogical phases of the soil samples. Emissivity spectra were obtained from the hemispherical reflectance measurements using Kirchhoff's law and compared with in situ radiance measurements obtained with a CIMEL Electronique CE312-2 thermal radiometer and converted to emi…
Estimation of sea surface temperature from SEVIRI data: algorithm testing and comparison with AVHRR products
2006
Three surface temperature (ST) algorithms for Spinning Enhanced Visible and InfraRed Imager (SEVIRI) data are developed and tested. A general split window algorithm for ST estimation, a sea surface temperature (SST) algorithm and a nonlinear algorithm (NLSST) developed for SEVIRI data. The test was carried out by comparing SEVIRI data with two types of data: (a) in situ and (b) obtained with the NLSST algorithm applied to Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR). The field campaign was carried out over sea using a thermal radiometer. The algorithms were applied to SEVIRI images in coincidence with the field campaign and the results show an rms error lower than 0.7 K. The comparison …
Comparison between different sources of atmospheric profiles for land surface temperature retrieval from single channel thermal infrared data
2012
Abstract Different sources of atmospheric water vapor and temperature profiles were used with a radiative transfer model for retrieving land surface temperature (LST) from thermal infrared remote sensing data with the so-called single channel (SC) method. Retrieved LSTs were compared to concurrent ground measurements over homogeneous rice fields to assess the accuracy of the atmospheric profiles. These included radiosonde balloons launched at the test site near-concurrently to satellite overpasses, re-analysis profiles from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), and satellite sounder products from the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) and the Moderate Imaging Spectrorad…
