Performance Outcomes of Turnover Intentions in Temporary Organizations: A Dyadic Study on the Effects at the Individual, Team, and Organizational Lev…
2017
This research examines the link between turnover intentions from temporary and permanent organizations and how both types of turnover intentions affect employee performance at an individual, temporary and permanent organizational level. Using dyadic data from 253 team members and their supervisors we find that turnover intentions from temporary organizations significantly enhance turnover intentions from permanent organizations, which leads to decreasing performance at all three levels. A moderation analysis suggests that companies can reduce detrimental effects of turnover intentions from temporary organizations by providing transparency and possibilities to participate in staffing process…
How News Affect the Trading Behavior of Different Categories of Investors in a Financial Market
2012
We investigate the trading behavior of a large set of single investors trading the highly liquid Nokia stock over the period 2003-2008 with the aim of determining the relative role of endogenous and exogenous factors that may affect their behavior. As endogenous factors we consider returns and volatility, whereas the exogenous factors we use are the total daily number of news and a semantic variable based on a sentiment analysis of news. Linear regression and partial correlation analysis of data show that different categories of investors are differently correlated to these factors. Governmental and non profit organizations are weakly sensitive to news and returns or volatility, and, typica…
Factors Affecting Attrition among First Year Computer Science Students: the Case of University of Latvia
2015

The purpose of our study was to identify reasons for high dropout of students enrolled in the first year of the computer science study program to make it possible to determine students, who are potentially in risk. Several factors that could affect attrition, as it was originally assumed, were studied: high school grades (admission score), compensative course in high school mathematics, intermediate grades for core courses, prior knowledge of programming. However, the results of our study indicate that none of the studied factors is determinant to identify those students, who are going to abandon their studies, with great precisio…
Ergonomic Risks in the Printing Company and Workers’ Wellbeing
2014
The aim of the study was to analyze the ergonomic risks in the printing company and to study the impact of ergonomics risks on employees’ wellbeing. The study involved 67 company workers aged 18 to 67 years. In the study, physical load evaluation methods and questionnaire on welfare and psychoemotional risks at work, adopted by Swedish Environmental Research Institute, were used. It was proved that production workers were subjected to increased physical workload. At work they are exposed to physical pressure on hands, shoulders and back. The workload is more affected by the increase in work tension due to limited time of order execution. It was concluded that ergonomic risks partly affect e…
Success factors for information technology supported international technology transfer: Finding expert consensus
2006
Information technology (IT)-supported international technology transfer (ITT) is complex, risky, and fails often. No empirical studies are available on the factors that affect the success of IT-supported ITT. We review applicable theories (i.e. diffusion of innovation theory) and empirical research in conventional technology transfer to develop such a model. We carry out a multiple focus group method to rank factors that affect the success of IT-supported ITT and then apply a branch and bound method to derive a consensus ranking of these factors. The identified consensus ranking sheds light on factors that are similar to those of DOI theory and suggests a pattern of factors that affect IT-s…
How to unleash the innovative work behavior of project staff? The role of affective and performance-based factors
2017
Abstract Although the literature generally presumes that temporary forms of organizing such as projects are especially suitable for generating innovation, empirical support for this assumption that goes beyond case-based evidence is still scarce. The study at hand aims to close this gap in research by investigating how the characteristics of temporary organizations (TOs) affect an individual's innovative work behavior (IWB). By applying a structural equation modeling approach on an Austrian-German sample of 583 TO professionals, it can be shown that both, performance-based factors and affective factors are having a significant impact on the emergence of IWB. However, the hypothesized modera…
Multimedia in Learning English as a Foreign Language as Preferred by German, Spanish, and Polish Teenagers
2014
This paper presents the findings of a small-scale study investigating the preferences of German, Polish, and Spanish teenage English as a foreign language (EFL) learners concerning their use of multimedia, such as Skype, Facebook, YouTube, e-mails, and TV-programmes in learning English. A group of 88 respondents was requested to complete an on-line questionnaire in order to specify how often some selected types of multimedia are used by adolescents in their autonomous EFL learning, and to determine their views on the extent to which some selected multimedia affect the development of their language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) and their English pronunciation. The outcom…

The general objective of this study was to describe the factors and stakeholders that have influence on the learning of road safety education and safe behaviors of ch…
Angļu valodas mācīšanās motivāciju ietekmējošie faktori vidējās izglītības iestādē, 5 un 9. klašu skolēniem
2019
