Theoretical study of new acceptor and donor molecules based on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

Functionalized polcyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are an interesting class of molecules in which the electronic state of the graphene-like hydrocarbon part is tuned by the functional group. Searching for new types of donor and acceptor molecules, a set of new PAHs has recently been investigated experimentally using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). In this work, the electronic structure of the PAHs is studied numerically with the help of B3LYP hybrid density functionals. Using the DELTA-SCF method, electron binding energies have been determined which affirm, specify and complement the UPS data. The adsorption of molecular acceptors is a viable method for tuning the work function of metal electrodes. This, in turn, enables adjusting charge injection barriers between the electrode and organic semiconductors. Here, we demonstrate the potential of pyrene-tetraone (PyT) and its derivatives dibromopyrene-tetraone (Br-PyT) and dinitropyrene-tetraone (NO2-PyT) for modifying the electronic properties of Au(111) and Ag(111) surfaces. A Comparative Analysis of the Electrophilicity of Organic Molecules between the Computed IPs and EAs and the HOMO and LUMO energies

[EN] The electrophilicity index, omega, of a series of substituted ethylenes used in some relevant organic reactions has been evaluated from the ionization potential JP) and the electron affinity (EA) computed by vertical ionization at the B3LYP/aug-cc-PVTZ level. The corresponding electrophilicity values are well correlated with those obtained from the HOMO and LUMO energies of the neutral molecules. A semi-empirical extrapolation technique for atomic and molecular properties derived from correlated wavefunctions

Abstract A semi-empirical extrapolation technique is suggested for recovering the correlation defect remaining in atomic and molecular properties calculated from highly correlated wavefunctions. These procedures are applied to PNO-CEPA and PNO-IPPA calculations on F, F + , F − , and HF in order to obtain “exact” estimates of the ionization potential, electron affinity, and dissociation energy.

Soluble oligo(phenylenevinylene)s with electron withdrawing substituents for the use in light emitting diodes

Poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) and its derivatives are one of the most widely used classes of phosphors in light emitting diodes. Central problems are the imbalanced charge carrier injection and transport properties due to the high lying conduction band. A series of good soluble oligo(phenylenevinylene)s (OPV) with five benzene rings and a variety of electron withdrawing and accepting substituents have been prepared and may serve as model compounds for PPV with increased electron affinity. Affinity chromatography with triazine dyes immobilized onto activated non-porous monodisperse silicas

Abstract Non-porous monodisperse silicas with a particle diameter of 2.1 μm were modified with different silanes for immobilization of various triazine dyes including Procion Red HE3B, Procion Red MX5B, and Cibacron Blue F3GA. Lactate dehydrogenase and malate dehydrogenase from different species and aldehyde reductase from rat brain were purified by affinity elution using the substrate of the enzyme and NADH. With Cibacron F3GA the selectivity for NADH-dependent enzymes was higher than with the two Procion dyes. An automatic multidimensional chromatography system for purification of human uterine progesterone receptor and induction of polyclonal antibodies.

Abstract This paper reports on the synthesis of Org2058-bonded microparticulate silicas and their use in affinity chromatography as the first step for the purification of human progesterone receptor. The development of microprocessor-controlled instruments allows all the various steps to be performed automatically. The various steps used for the purification of human progesterone receptor were carried out with the FPLC system: (1) affinity chromatography, (2) desalting of eluate on Sephadex G-25, (3) anion-exchange chromatography using a Mono Q column. Application of Liquid-Liquid Partition Chromatography (LLPC) in the Preparation of Steroid Binding Proteins

Two human serum proteins, i.e. sex hormone binding globulin (h-SHBG) and corticosteroid binding globulin (h-CBG), rat corticosteroid binding globulin (r-CBG), and progesterone binding globulin (PBG) from new guinea pig were purified by the application of three different modes of chromatography. The proteins were purified by affinity chromatography and anion exchange chromatography. Fractions containing the steroid binding proteins were finally purified by liquid-liquid partition chromatography on LiParGel 750 (Merck, Darmstadt, FRG).
