Occurrence of resveratrol and pterostilbene in age-old darakchasava, an ayurvedic medicine from India
2000
'Darakchasava' is a well known Indian herbal preparation of which the main ingredient is Vitis vinifera L. This 'ayurvedic' medicine is prescribed as a cardiotonic and also given for other disorders. HPLC analysis of this age old formulation revealed the presence of polyphenols like resveratrol and pterostilbene. These phenolic compounds are now known as antioxidants, cancer chemopreventive agents, and also known to reduce mortality from coronary heart disease by increasing high density lipoproteins like cholesterol and inhibiting platelet aggregation (Soleas, J.S., Diamandis, E.P., Goldberg, D.M., 1997. Resveratrol: a molecule whose time has come? and gone? Clin. Biochem. 30 (2), 91-113). …
Activation of soluble guanylyl cyclase by YC-1 in aortic smooth muscle but not in ventricular myocardium from rat
1997
1 The effects of YC-1 (3-(5′-hydroxymethyl-2′-furyl)-1-benzyl indazole), an activator of soluble guanylyl cyclase, on tension, levels of cyclic GMP and cyclic AMP, and cardiac L-type Ca2+-current (ICa(L)) were investigated in aortic smooth muscle and ventricular heart muscle from rat. 2 YC-1 (0.1–30 μM) induced a concentration-dependent relaxation in aortic rings precontracted with phenylephrine (3 μM). The relaxant effects of YC-1 were reversed by 1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-1-one (30 μM; ODQ), potentiated by zaprinast (10 μM) and antagonized by Rp-8-Br-cGMPS (100 μM). 3 In ventricular heart muscle strips, YC-1 (30 μM) exhibited no effects on force of contraction (Fc) in the abse…
Effect of mesoglycan on macrorheologic and microrheologic parameters
1992
Abstract Whole blood filtration, mean erythrocyte aggregation, and erythrocyte membrane fluidity were examined in 10 patients with vascular atherosclerotic disease (VAD) and in 15 VAD patients with noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) treated with mesoglycan (100 mg orally twice a day) for 30 days. The red cell membrane transverse fluidity gradient was evaluated in the VAD subjects, and the red cell membrane protein lateral mobility was measured in the VAD subjects with NIDDM. In both groups, mesoglycan treatment was responsible for an increase in erythrocyte membrane fluidity. This finding, which reflects an improvement in the dynamic properties of red cell membrane, assumes part…

Time scale of protein aggregation dictated by liquid-liquid demixing
2003
The growing impact of protein aggregation pathologies, together with the current high need for extensive information on protein structures are focusing much interest on the physics underlying the nucleation and growth of protein aggregates and crystals. Sickle Cell Hemoglobin (HbS), a point-mutant form of normal human Hemoglobin (HbA), is the first recognized and best-studied case of pathologically aggregating protein. Here we reanalyze kinetic data on nucleation of deoxy-HbS aggregates by referring them to the (concentration-dependent) temperature Ts characterizing the occurrence of the phase transition of liquid-liquid demixing (LLD) of the solution. In this way, and by appropriate scalin…
BODIPY - phosphane - gold complexes : towards the elaboration of optical theranostics
2015
This work describes new anticancer agents that could be detected by optical imaging, namely optical theranostics. After a first chapter describing the context of cancer imaging and therapy, a second chapter describes a first series of BODIPY-phosphine-gold theranostics, the synthesis of which has been optimized (less steps, shortening the reaction time, scale up). Their conjugation with biomolecules (glucose, peptide) has been achieved by developing a simple and efficient method that leads to the coupling between the gold atom of the probe and the thiol of the biomolecule (modified or not), leading to a gold sulfur bound. Hence, it makes the biovectorization of the probes possible in order t…

γ‐Agregation operators and some aspects of generalized aggregation problem
2010
We explore questions related to the aggregation operators and aggregation of fuzzy sets. No preliminary knowledge of the aggregation operators theory and of the fuzzy sets theory are required, because all necessary information is given in Section 2. Later we introduce a new class of γ‐aggregation operators, which “ignore” arguments less than γ. Due to this property γ‐aggregation operators simplify the aggregation process and extend the area of possible applications. The second part of the paper is devoted to the generalized aggregation problem. We use the definition of generalized aggregation operator, introduced by A. Takaci in [7], and study the pointwise extension of a γ‐agop. First publ…

Thermodynamics of Surfactant, Block Copolymer and Their Mixtures in Water: The Role of the Isothermal Calorimetry
2009
The thermodynamics of conventional surfactants, block copolymers and their mixtures in water was described to the light of the enthalpy function. The two methodologies, i.e. the van't Hoff approach and the isothermal calorimetry, used to determine the enthalpy of micellization of pure surfactants and block copolymers were described. The van't Hoff method was critically discussed. The aqueous copolymer+surfactant mixtures were analyzed by means of the isothermal titration calorimetry and the enthalpy of transfer of the copolymer from the water to the aqueous surfactant solutions. Thermodynamic models were presented to show the procedure to extract straightforward molecular insights from the …
