Co-développement d'un modèle d'aide à la décision pour la gestion intégrée de la flore adventice. Méta-modélisation et analyse de sensibilité d'un mo…

2018

The main threat to agricultural crops are weeds with herbicides being the primary cropping management practice. Due to the negative impact of herbicides on health and environment, their use must be reduced. To replace herbicides, numerous cropping practices need to be implemented. This makes weed management more complicated and, together with necessity of scheduling operations at long-term and the multiplicity of cropping system impacts, explains why models are so useful for designing innovative cropping systems. The aim of this thesis was to develop a Decision Support System (DSS) intended for crop advisors to help design cropping systems that are less dependent on herbicides. Our approach…

Activités cytotoxiques et pro-oxydantes d'acides gras à très longue chaîne sur des oligodendrocytes murins sauvages et déficients en Abcd1 et Acox1 :…

2010

X-ALD and P-NALD are two rare, peroxisomal metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. ABCD1 and ACOX1 are known to be responsible for X-ALD and P-NALD, respectively. The actively demyelinating lesions in CNS, exhibited signs of oxidative stress and cell death. The accumulation of VLCFA in plasma and tissue is the biochemical common hallmark to both diseases. First, we characterized a murine oligodendrocytes cell line 158N to use it as a model. This 158N cell line which has characteristics of mature oligodendrocytes (expression of myelin proteins MOG, MBP, PLP), has also functional peroxisomes with Abcd1 and Acox1 proteins. Then, we studied the cytotoxic and pro-oxidative effects of VLCFA (C2…

Screening of lactic acid bacteria for their use as aromatic starters during fermentation of vegetables

2020

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have good growth capacities on various food matrices and produce very diverse enzymatic activities which are notably capable of positively modifying the organoleptic properties of fermented foods. Therefore, the selection of the LAB starters possessing good metabolic abilities and interesting enzymatic activities towards the plant matrix could improve the aroma profiles of fermented foods. The main objective of this study was to enhance the aroma profiles of fermented tomatoes by using the biotechnological pathway. To achieve this, firstly, 200 LAB isolated from Cambodian and Vietnamese fermented foods were screened for their β-glucosidase activity and duplicate i…

CoSAC, un projet pour la conception de stratégies durables de gestion des adventices dans un contexte de changement (climat, pratiques agricoles, bio…

2016

The CoSAC project associates partners from research and development in order to (1) quantify and understand, with experiments, the effects of novel agricultural practices on weeds and the functioning of the agroecosystem, (2) design tools that predict the effect of agricultural techniques et pedoclimate on weed flora, (3) use these tools to design sustainable weed management strategies and to evaluate their performances in contexts of changing agricultural practices, climate, biodiversity, (4) facilitate the adoption of these novel strategies by farmers. We will present the first results of the project, e.g. the effect on weeds of cover crops during fallow or associated to a cash crop, the …

Brokers in the tea trade between China and West Africa

2021

Brokers have played important roles in the trade of green tea between China and Mali, from the 19th century when tea first came to Mali up to the present. They mediate between tea buyers and sellers, work on their own account, use soft skills, knowledge and networks and make a living from the commission they gain. This article examines the work of brokers in the tea trade, the social constellations in which they are active and the scope of their activity. Based on extensive field research in Mali and China, this article shows how brokers create their own jobs in a dynamic business landscape, which is often delimited by governmental policies, competing entrepreneurial activities and social …

Permian-Triassic Osteichthyes (bony fishes): diversity dynamics and body size evolution

2014

The Permian and Triassic were key time intervals in the history of life on Earth. Both periods are marked by a series of biotic crises including the most catastrophic of such events, the end-Permian mass extinction, which eventually led to a major turnover from typical Palaeozoic faunas and floras to those that are emblematic for the Mesozoic and Cenozoic. Here we review patterns in Permian-Triassic bony fishes, a group whose evolutionary dynamics are understudied. Based on data from primary literature, we analyse changes in their taxonomic diversity and body size (as a proxy for trophic position) and explore their response to Permian-Triassic events. Diversity and body size are investigate…

Strength of sexual and postmating prezygotic barriers varies between sympatric populations with different histories and species abundances.

2019

The impact of different reproductive barriers on species or population isolation may vary in different stages of speciation depending on evolutionary forces acting within species and through species' interactions. Genetic incompatibilities between interacting species are expected to reinforce prezygotic barriers in sympatric populations and lead to cascade reinforcement between conspecific populations living within and outside the areas of sympatry. We tested these predictions and studied whether and how the strength and target of reinforcement between Drosophila montana and Drosophila flavomontana vary between sympatric populations with different histories and species abundances. All barri…

The effect of inbreeding rate on fitness, inbreeding depression and heterosis over a range of inbreeding coefficients

2014

Understanding the effects of inbreeding and genetic drift within populations and hybridization between genetically differentiated populations is important for many basic and applied questions in ecology and evolutionary biology. The magnitudes and even the directions of these effects can be influenced by various factors, especially by the current and historical population size (i.e. inbreeding rate). Using Drosophila littoralis as a model species, we studied the effect of inbreeding rate over a range of inbreeding levels on (i) mean fitness of a population (relative to that of an outbred control population), (ii) within‐population inbreeding depression (reduction in fitness of offspring fro…
