Facilitation of goal-setting and follow-up in an internet intervention for health and wellness
2010
Chronic work-related stress and insufficient recovery from workload can gradually lead to problems with mental and physical health. Resources in healthcare are limited especially for preventive treatment, but low-cost support can be provided by Internet-based behavior change interventions. This paper describes the design of an Internet intervention which supports working-age people in managing and preventing stress-related health and wellness problems. The intervention is designed for early prevention and aims to motivate individuals to take responsibility for their own well-being. It allows them to choose the approach to take to address personally significant issues, while guiding them thr…
Anchoring Belonging Through Material Practices in Participatory Arts-Based Research
2020
How do people understand belonging and what kinds of stances toward belonging do they take? What kind of knowledge or ways of knowing (EISNER, 2008) does artistic practice yield about belonging? We ask these questions in this article, which is based on the research project Crossing Borders, in which we used participatory arts-based methods to study belonging. We invited participants to explore the notion of belonging in three parallel workshops drawing on different art forms, film, writing and visual arts. The goal of the workshops was for each participant to produce an artwork that deals with belonging. In the article, we identify four stances that the participants expressed toward the con…
Multiverse Ethnography: A Qualitative Method for Gaming and Technology Use Research
2021
This article introduces multiverse ethnography as a systematic team-based qualitative method for studying the mechanical, structural and experiential properties of video games and other technological artefacts. Instead of applying the ethnographic method to produce a single in-depth account, multiverse ethnography includes multiple researchers carrying out coordinated synergetic ethnographic work on the same research object, thus producing a multiverse of interpretations and perspectives. To test the method, 41 scholars carried out a multiverse ethnography on two video games, Cyberpunk 2077 and Among Us. Explorative thematic findings regarding both titles are reported and methodological imp…

In this paper, the author studies the unitary representations of the braid group and the geometric structures on moduli space that arise via the Hodge theory of cyclic branched coverings of P^1. In particular, the author is interested in the classification of certain arithmetic subgroups of U(r, s) which envelop the image of the braid group. The author investigates their connections with complex reflection groups, Teichm\"{u}lller curves, ergodic theory and problems in surface topology.

In the paper under review, the author studies the orbits of the action of the braid group B_{n} on G^{n} where G denoted a dihedral group. At first, the author considers tuples T consisting only of reflections. In this case, the author proves that the orbits are determinate by three invariants. These invariants are the product of the entries, the subgroup generated by the entries and the number of times each conjugacy class is represented in T. Successively, the author works with tuples whose entries are any elements of dihedral groups. The author shows that, also this time, the above invariants are sufficient in order to determinate the orbits of the action of B_{n} on G^{n}.
Comparative Study of Feature classification Methods for Mass Lesion Recognition in Digitized Mammograms
2007
In this work a comparison of different classification methods for the identification of mass lesions in digitized mammograms is performed. These methods, used in order to develop Computer Aided Detection (CAD) systems, have been implemented in the framework of the MAGIC-5 Collaboration. The system for identification of mass lesions is based on a three-step procedure: a) preprocessing and segmentation, b) region of interest (ROI) searching, c) feature extraction and classification. It was tested on a very large mammographic database (3369 mammographic images from 967 patients). Each ROI is characterized by eight features extracted from a co-occurrence matrix containing spatial statistics inf…
