Epistemic governance in local policy debates : The case of entitlement to early childhood education and care in Finland

In Finland, children below school age have enjoyed the right to attend subsidised full-time early childhood education and care (ECEC). However, the attendance rate in Finland is low in comparison to other Nordic countries. Furthermore, the entitlement was restricted to 20 h per week in 2016 unless the child’s parents work or study full-time or unless it is believed that the child will benefit from full-time ECEC. The debates concerning restrictions in ECEC entitlement in three municipal councils serve as the data for this study. The so-called ‘refugee crisis’ has added urgency to the social dynamics of inclusion and exclusion in European societies. This study explores how emotions figure in this politics of belonging by studying their discursive mobilization in Finnish and Estonian public debates on asylum seekers. Focusing on presidential speeches addressing the refugee issue, on the one hand, and their reception by online commenters on popular tabloid news sites, on the other, the comparative analysis highlights both similarities and differences in how emotional expressions are employed in these two countries with very different experiences of taking refugees. Associations between Sports Videogames and Physical Activity in Children

Abstract Objective: The aim of the study was to examine the associations of sports video gaming behaviour in the sociological concept of Physical Activity Relationships (PAR) and to see if sports video gaming differs by gender. Methods: A convenience sample of children between 11–12 years of age (n = 114) from three Finnish regions completed a questionnaire on perceptions of their video gaming and physical activity habits. This article aims to increase understanding of the global-local contexts in football by exploring the changing field of professional football stadiums in Finland and Hungary in the 2000s. More specifically, the cases of two clubs, HJK (Finland) and Ferencvárosi TC (Hungary) are studied. We employ concepts of sport and globalization. The research data consist of semi-structured expert interviews with Finnish and Hungarian football practitioners, media and club documents, and data from observation. This article analyses the role of affect and emotions in Finland’s first large-scale anti-deportation protest, the 2017 Right to Live protest in Helsinki. Despite deportation protests having recently gained scholarly attention, their emotional dimensions have not been sufficiently studied, especially as concerns the emotions of protestors with vulnerable legal status. Kvalifikācijas darba ietvaros tika izveidota personāla laika uzskaites sistēma, ar kuras palīdzību var pārvaldīt informāciju par darbiniekiem, tabelēm un to ierakstiem, grafikiem un notikumiem tajos. Šajā sistēmā piekļuve ir paredzēta darbiniekiem, kuriem ir izveidots konts. Tiešajiem vadītājiem ir iespējams izveidot, labot, apstiprināt, noraidīt un dzēst viņu padoto darbinieku grafikus, tabeles un notikumus. Sistēma sastāv no 2 daļām – lietotāju puses, ar kuru darbojas lietotājs, un servera puses, kas veic datu apstrādi. Sistēmai ir 3 moduļi – darbinieku, grafiku un tabeļu. Darba mērķis ir laika rindas tehnoloģijas, analīzes, prognozēšanas un tās praktisko pielietojumu izpēte. Darba ietvaros tika veikta laika rindas analīzes un prognozēšanas metožu apskate, laika rindas problēmsituāciju izpēte, kā arī tika apskatītas nozares, kurās laika rindas tiek pielietotas. Papildus tika apskatītas un salīdzinātas divas vadošās laika rindas datubāzu pārvaldības sistēmas. Pēc izpētes laikā iegūtajiem rezultātiem darba praktiskajā daļā tika veikta laika rindas datu prognozēšanas metožu pielietošana – Latvijas eksporta apjoma prognozēšana balsoties uz iegūtajiem datiem no 1995.gada līdz 2019.gadam.
