Most studies have focused on the problems associated with materialism and social media use, yet their potential positive contributions remain less clear. As part of integration training in Finland, migrants are provided with Finnish or Swedish language courses. The linguistic objective is to provide migrants with the basic language skills required in daily life. To find the most suitable teaching group for learners in integration training, a placement assessment is carried out. This includes assessment of learners’ current proficiency level in the target language and study skills/experience. Abstract Background Many people do not regularly participate in physical activity, which may negatively impact their health. Current physical activity guidelines are focused on promoting weekly accumulation of at least 150 min of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA). Whilst revised guidance now recognises the importance of making small changes to physical activity behaviour, guidance still focuses on adults needing to achieve at least 150 min of MVPA per week. Twin study designs were utilized to investigate how and what types of leisure- time physical activity (LTPA) are associated with abdominal adiposity in young adulthood taking into consideration diet and other selected health factors. The data of two studies were used: the longitudinal FinnTwin16 cohort and the clinical FITFATWIN study. In FinnTwin16, questionnaire data together with self- measured waist circumference (WC) of 3 383 (1 578 men) cohort members at mean ages 24.5 y and 34 y were used to study LTPA level and waist gain. This critical literature review traces the roots of how adult cognitive development and learning are conceptualised. It addresses some implicitly included historical and philosophical concepts, analysing especially the concept of change, and ontological assumptions included in the Piagetian and neo-Piagetian “postformal thinking” traditions. Two major theories that have had an important impact on modern scientific discussion regarding adult cognitive development are discussed: Piaget’s and Perry’s theories of logical thinking and assumptions of knowledge.
