Greeks and Latins: a Disciplining Case in Monreale Archdiocese

2022

Exploring Post-COVID-19 Branding Strategies of African Destinations

2023

AbstractThe lifting of COVID-19 restrictions has led to the opening of many tourism destinations, with many destination marketing organizations (DMOs) adopting different strategies to attract tourists. This study explores the post-COVID-19 branding strategies of four award-winning African destinations (South Africa, Kenya, Morocco, and Mauritius) and how they utilize social media to communicate their destination brand identities. We curated the tweets of the National Tourism Boards of the examined destinations from their official Twitter accounts and analyzed them using Atlas.ti. We found that each of the destinations uniquely identifies and communicates its destination’s competitive advant…

The social mediators: limits and challenges of a system

2011

Following a study aimed at measuring the limits and challenges of the social mediation system, the authors put forward an examination in this article of the mutual expectations of the social mediator and its employer, the urban community. This sociological study is comprehensive: it uses the method of the individual interview and focus group. The analysis of the results is supported by contributions from Boltanski and Thévenot in order to compare the reference “worlds” of both types of actor. It is supplemented by the analysis of notions of “system” (Foucault) and “professionalisation” (Hainaux et al., Bartoli). The authors try to understand the extent to which the actors understand involve…

Network-based indices of individual and collective advising impacts in mathematics

2020

AbstractAdvising and mentoring Ph.D. students is an increasingly important aspect of the academic profession. We define and interpret a family of metrics (collectively referred to as “a-indices”) that can potentially be applied to “ranking academic advisors” using the academic genealogical records of scientists, with the emphasis on taking into account not only the number of students advised by an individual, but also subsequent academic advising records of those students. We also define and calculate the extensions of the proposed indices that account for student co-advising (referred to as “adjusted a-indices”). In addition, we extend some of the proposed metrics to ranking universities a…

Transformative direction of innovation and measurement of uncaptured GDP in the digital economy

2017

The Internet has dramatically changed business dynamics and our daily lives by providing extraordinary services and welfare never anticipated before. However, productivity in industrialized countries has confronted an apparent decline. The ICT advanced firms and countries are suffering with low marginal productivity of their ICT investments. This reveals the two-faced nature of ICT and productivity paradox in the digital economy. With the progression of technology and transition from commodity- oriented to information society, the consumers’ preferences are believed to be shifted beyond economic value. The digitization has promoted the free and un- monetized consumption of digital goods and…

Compost Amendment Impact on Soil Physical Quality Estimated from Hysteretic Water Retention Curve

2022

Capacity-based indicators of soil physical quality (SPQ) and pore distribution parameters were proposed to assess the effects of compost amendment but their determination was limited to desorption water retention experiments. This study also considered the pore size distribution obtained from adsorption experiments to establish the effectiveness of compost amendment in modifying the physical and hydrological attributes of a sandy loam soil. Repacked soil samples with different compost to soil ratios, r, were subjected to a wetting–drying cycle, and the water retention data were fit to the van Genuchten model to obtain the pore volume distribution functions. The soil bulk density was m…

Travail du soin, soin du travail

2020
