MR3038546, Brešar, Matej; Klep, Igor A local-global principle for linear dependence of noncommutative polynomials. Israel J. Math. 193 (2013), no. 1,…

2014

Let F be a eld of characteristic zero and FhXi the free associative algebra on X = fX1;X2; : : : g over F; i.e., the algebra of polynomials in the non-commuting variables Xi 2 X. A set of polynomials in FhXi is called locally linearly dependent if their evaluations at tuples of matrices are always linearly dependent. In [Integral Equations Operator Theory 46 (2003), no. 4, 399{454; MR1997979 (2004f:90102)], J. F. Camino et al., in the setting of free analysis, motivated by systems engineering, proved that a nite locally linearly dependent set of polynomials is linearly dependent. In this paper the authors give an alternative algebraic proof of this result based on the theory of polynomial i…

A NOTE ON THE CATEGORICAL NOTIONS OF NORMAL SUBOBJECT AND OF EQUIVALENCE CLASS

2021

In a non-pointed category E, a subobject which is normal to an equivalence relation is not necessarily an equivalence class. We elaborate this categorical distinction, with a special attention to the Mal'tsev context. Moreover, we introduce the notion of fibrant equipment, and we use it to establish some conditions ensuring the uniqueness of an equivalence relation to which a given subobject is normal, and to give a description of such a relation.

Anti-$PC$-groups and Anti-$CC$-groups

An anti-CCgroupGis a group in which each nonfinitely generated subgroupKhas the quotient groupG/coreG(NG(K))which is a Černikov group. Analogously, a groupGhas polycyclic-by-finite classes of conjugate subgroups if the quotient groupG/coreG(NG(H))is a polycyclic-by-finite group for each subgroupHofG. An anti-PCgroupGis a group in which each nonfinitely generated subgroupKhas the quotient groupG/coreG(NG(K))which is a polycyclic-by-finite group. Anti-CCgroups and anti-PCgroups are the subject of the present article.

Distributors and the comprehensive factorization system for internal groupoids

2017

In this note we prove that distributors between groupoids in a Barr-exact category epsilon form the bicategory of relations relative to the comprehensive factorization system in Gpd(epsilon). The case epsilon = Set is of special interest.

Classifying the Minimal Varieties of Polynomial Growth

2014

Let $\mathcal{V}$ be a variety of associative algebras generated by an algebra with $1$ over a field of characteristic zero. This paper is devoted to the classification of the varieties $\mathcal{V}$ which are minimal of polynomial growth (i.e., their sequence of codimensions growth like $n^k$ but any proper subvariety grows like $n^t$ with $t 4$, the number of minimal varieties is at least $|F|$, the cardinality of the base field and we give a recipe of how to construct them.

Hegel’s Conceptual Group Action on Creative Dynamics in Music

2014

The present paper presents a mechanism to catalyze that crucial step in a creative process, where the critical concept’s “walls” (referring to the common “box” metaphor) are identified and opened. We propose a concrete, but generic body of six concepts and the action of a group of transformations of this body, a toolbox that should offer a set of operational perspectives onto the critical concept’s walls. The conceptual body and the group action are deduced from the first paragraphs of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel’s Wissenschaft der Logik. On this body, a group, called the “Hegel group”, acts and reflects some of the relations and operations that are hidden in Hegel’s text. We then identif…

Parametric Natura Morta

2018

Parametric equations can also be used to draw fruits, shells, and a cornucopia of a mathematical still life. Simple mathematics allows the creation of a variety of shapes and visual artworks, and it can also constitute a pedagogical tool for students.
