Multiple Zeta Values

2017

We study in some detail the very important class of periods called multiple zeta values (MZV). These are periods of mixed Tate motives, which we discussed in Sect. 6.4. Multiple zeta values are in fact periods of unramified mixed Tate motives, a full subcategory of all mixed Tate motives.

Quasivarieties of Algebras

2001

This chapter plays a twofold role in the book. Firstly, the chapter surveys basic facts about quasivarieties of algebras. These facts are widely utilised in the subsequent chapters devoted to algebraizable logics. Secondly, the chapter shows how the methods initially elaborated for protoalgebraic sentential logics in the first part can be also applied in the area of equational logic. Most of the results presented in this chapter are proved by way of adapting the purely consequential methods of sentential logic to the needs of the (quasi) equational systems associated with quasivarieties of algebras.

Annihilation Operators for Exponential Spaces in Subdivision

2022

We investigate properties of differential and difference operators annihilating certain finite-dimensional subspaces of exponential functions in two variables that are connected to the representation of real-valued trigonometric and hyperbolic functions. Although exponential functions appear in a variety of contexts, the motivation behind this work comes from considering subdivision schemes with the capability of preserving those exponential functions required for an exact description of surfaces parametrized in terms of trigonometric and hyperbolic functions.

Calibration of the Norwegian motion laboratory using conformal geometric algebra

2017

This paper applies Conformal Geometric Algebra (CGA) as a tool for calibrating the robotic equipment found in the Norwegian Motion Laboratory. By using the inner product of CGA to measure the distance between a point and the surface of a plane/sphere, the least-squares method can be used to solve for the unknown parameters describing the plane/sphere in an efficient and intuitive way given n measured points. Positional data samples were acquired from using a high precision Laser tracker (FARO Xi), and the overall calibration error was found to be no more than 4.90mm, and the maximum standard deviation 3.25mm. In addition, the applied least-squares algorithm using CGA was twice as fast, when…

Computation of the topological type of a real Riemann surface

2014

We present an algorithm for the computation of the topological type of a real compact Riemann surface associated to an algebraic curve, i.e., its genus and the properties of the set of fixed points of the anti-holomorphic involution τ \tau , namely, the number of its connected components, and whether this set divides the surface into one or two connected components. This is achieved by transforming an arbitrary canonical homology basis to a homology basis where the A \mathcal {A} -cycles are invariant under the anti-holomorphic involution  τ \tau .
