Embedding Evolution in Epidemic-Style Forwarding
2007
International audience; In this work, we introduce a framework to let forwarding schemes evolve in order to adapt to changing and a priori unknown environments. The framework is inspired by genetic algorithms: at each node a genotype describes the forwarding scheme used, a selection process fosters the diffusion of the fittest genotypes in the system and new genotypes are created by combining existing ones or applying random changes. A case study implementation is presented and its performance evaluated via numerical simulations.
A Study on scale factor in distributed differential evolution.
2011
This paper proposes the employment of multiple scale factor values within distributed differential evolution structures. Four different scale factor schemes are proposed, tested, compared and analyzed. Two schemes simply employ multiple scale factor values and two also include an update logic during the evolution. The four schemes have been integrated for comparison within three recently proposed distributed differential evolution structures and tested on several various test problems. Numerical results show that, on average, the employment of multiple scale factors is beneficial since in most cases it leads to significant improvements in performance with respect to standard distributed alg…
Gravitational-wave parameter inference using Deep Learning
2021
We explore machine learning methods to detect gravitational waves (GW) from binary black hole (BBH) mergers using deep learning (DL) algorithms. The DL networks are trained with gravitational waveforms obtained from BBH mergers with component masses randomly sampled in the range from 5 to 100 solar masses and luminosity distances from 100 Mpc to, at least, 2000 Mpc. The GW signal waveforms are injected in public data from the O2 run of the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors, in time windows that do not coincide with those of known detected signals, and the data from each detector in the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo network is combined into a unique RGB image. We show that a clas…
CUSHAW3: Sensitive and Accurate Base-Space and Color-Space Short-Read Alignment with Hybrid Seeding
2014
The majority of next-generation sequencing short-reads can be properly aligned by leading aligners at high speed. However, the alignment quality can still be further improved, since usually not all reads can be correctly aligned to large genomes, such as the human genome, even for simulated data. Moreover, even slight improvements in this area are important but challenging, and usually require significantly more computational endeavor. In this paper, we present CUSHAW3, an open-source parallelized, sensitive and accurate short-read aligner for both base-space and color-space sequences. In this aligner, we have investigated a hybrid seeding approach to improve alignment quality, which incorp…
Gamma-ray position reconstruction in large lanthanum-halide crystals with SiPM readout: analytical vs. neural-network algorithms
2019
The main objective of this research was to achieve an excellent gamma-ray position reconstruction with very large monolithic scintillation crystals coupled to pixelated silicon photosensors. Analyzing the scintillation-light distribution measured along the SiPM-pixels one can get a sub-pixel accuracy for the position reconstruction. The quality of the latter depends on both the characteristics of the crystal-photosensor assembly, and the goodness of the algorithm used to reconstruct the gamma-ray hit location. We have carried out a systematic study for 511 keV gamma-rays using three different crystal thicknesses of 10 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm, all of them with planar geometry and a base size of …
Prototyping algorithm for retrieving FAPAR using MSG data in the context of the LSA SAF project
2007
This paper describes the prototyping algorithm developed for retrieving the Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR) using MSG data in the framework of satellite application facility on land surface analysis (LSA SAF). The prototyping relies on the Roujean and Breon (1995) method, which is based on simulations of visible and near infrared reflectance values in an optimal geometry. A relationship is found between a vegetation index and daily FAPAR The algorithm has been applied to one year of MSG BRDF data since August 2005, using a temporal frequency of 5-days, and then validated against a set of operational satellite FAPAR products such as MODIS, MERIS, SeaWiFS and …
A hybrid multi-objective optimization algorithm for content based image retrieval
2013
Abstract Relevance feedback methods in CBIR (Content Based Image Retrieval) iteratively use relevance information from the user to search the space for other relevant samples. As several regions of interest may be scattered through the space, an effective search algorithm should balance the exploration of the space to find new potential regions of interest and the exploitation of areas around samples which are known relevant. However, many algorithms concentrate the search on areas which are close to the images that the user has marked as relevant, according to a distance function in the (possibly deformed) multidimensional feature space. This maximizes the number of relevant images retriev…

Assessment of wastewater treatment alternatives for small communities: An analytic network process approach
2015
The selection of the most appropriate wastewater treatment (WWT) technology is a complex problem since many alternatives are available and many criteria are involved in the decision-making process. To deal with this challenge, the analytic network process (ANP) is applied for the first time to rank a set of seven WWT technology set-ups for secondary treatment in small communities. A major advantage of ANP is that it incorporates interdependent relationships between elements. Results illustrated that extensive technologies, constructed wetlands and pond systems are the most preferred alternatives by WWT experts. The sensitivity analysis performed verified that the ranking of WWT alternatives…
L'administration conjointe du dossier patient: une responsabilité partagée entre le patient et le praticien
2011
National audience; The main problem faced by patients, health practitioners and the authorities, is namely the gathering and updating of administrative and medical data in order to accurately reconstitute a patient's medical history. Although solutions to accelerate and to ease this gathering are being implemented at the national level in several European countries, as unique health identifier in France, information still have to be validated before use. Through this article, we propose a mixed management of patients' data, split between the patient regarding administrative information and the Medical Practitioner (MP) regarding medical information. This method is based on two processes. Th…
