Development of an ICP-IDMS method for accurate routine analyses of toxic heavy metals in polyolefins and comparison with results by TI-IDMS

2000

An inductively coupled plasma isotope dilution mass spectrometric (ICP-IDMS) method was developed as a suitable method - with respect to its sensitivity, precision, accuracy, and time-consumption - for the analysis of toxic heavy metal traces (Pb, Cd, Cr, and Hg) in polyolefins. Results for Pb, Cd, and Cr were compared with those obtained by thermal ionization isotope dilution mass spectrometry (TI-IDMS), which was used as a reference method. Because of its high first ionization potential and its high volatility mercury could not be determined by TI-IDMS. A multi-element spike solution, containing isotopically enriched 206Pb, 116Cd, 53Cr, and 201Hg, was used for the isotope dilution step. D…

Reactions of Alkenes and Alkynes with an Acyclic Silylene and Heavier Tetrylenes under Ambient Conditions

2014

Cycloaddition reactions of the acyclic silylene Si(SAriPr4)2 (AriPr4 = C6H3-2,6(C6H3-2,6-iPr2)2) with a variety of alkenes and alkynes were investigated. Its reactions with the alkynes phenylacetylene and diphenylacetylene and the diene 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene yielded silacycles (AriPr4S)2tiebar above startSi(CH═tiebar above endCPh) (1), (AriPr4S)2tiebar above startSi(PhC═tiebar above endCPh) (2), and (AriPr4S)2tiebar above startSiCH2CMeCMetiebar above endCH2 (3) at ambient temperature. The compounds were characterized by X-ray crystallography, 1H, 13C, and 29Si NMR spectroscopy, and IR spectroscopy. No reaction was observed with more substituted alkenes such as propene, (Z)-2-butene, te…

Keggin heteropolyacid H3PW12O40 supported on different oxides for catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted propene hydration

2013

Catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted hydration of propene to form 2-propanol in gas–solid regime at atmospheric pressure and 85 1C were carried out by using a heteropolyacid (POM) supported on different oxides. Binary materials were prepared by impregnation of H3PW12O40 on different commercial and home prepared supports (TiO2, SiO2, WO3, ZrO2, ZnO, Al2O3). Some of the composites were active both for catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted reactions. The Keggin type POM was completely and partially degraded, when supported on ZnO and Al2O3, respectively, and these binary solids always resulted as inactive for both catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted reactions. The supported Keggin POM sp…

Photoluminescence in Carborane–Stilbene Triads : A Structural, Spectroscopic, and Computational Study

2016

A set of triads in which o- and m-carborane clusters are bonded to two stilbene units through Ccluster -CH2 bonds was synthesized, and their structures were confirmed by X-ray diffraction. A study on the influence of the o- and m- isomers on the absorption and photoluminescence properties of the stilbene units in solution revealed no charge-transfer contributions in the lowest excited state, as confirmed by (TD)DFT calculations. The presence of one or two B-I groups in m-carborane derivatives does not affect the emission properties of the stilbenes in solution, probably due to the rather large distance between the iodo substituents and the fluorophore. Nevertheless, a significant redshift o…

Catalytic Asymmetric Formal [3+2] Cycloaddition of 2-Isocyanatomalonate Esters and Unsaturated Imines: Synthesis of Highly Substituted Chiral γ-Lacta…

2017

[EN] Unlike their isocyano and isothiocyanato analogues, isocyanato esters remain almost unexplored as formal 1,3-dipoles in asymmetric catalytic reactions. The first asymmetric formal [3+2] cycloaddition involving isocyanato esters and electrophilic alkenes is reported. Diisopropyl 2-isocyanatomalonate reacts with a,b-unsaturated N-(o-anisidyl) imines in the presence of a Mg(OTf)2¿BOX complex to give highly substituted chiral pyrrolidinones featuring a conjugate exocyclic double bond with excellent yields and enantiomeric excesses up to 99%. Several transformations of the resulting heterocycles, including the synthesis of a pyroglutamic acid derivative, have been carried out.

Counterintuitive Mechanisms of the Addition of Hydrogen and Simple Olefins to Heavy Group 13 Alkene Analogues

2013

The mechanism of the reaction of olefins and hydrogen with dimetallenes ArMMAr (Ar = aromatic group; M = Al or Ga) was studied by density functional theory calculations and experimental methods. The digallenes, for which the most experimental data are available, are extensively dissociated to gallanediyl monomers, :GaAr, in hydrocarbon solution, but the calculations and experimental data showed also that they react with simple olefins, such as ethylene, as intact ArGaGaAr dimers via stepwise [2 + 2 + 2] cycloadditions due to their considerably lower activation barriers vis-à-vis the gallanediyl monomers, :GaAr. This pathway was preferred over the [2 + 2] cycloaddition of olefin to monomeric…

Identification of highly effective antitrypanosomal compounds in essential oils from the Apiaceae family

2018

The Apiaceae family encompasses aromatic plants of economic importance employed in foodstuffs, beverages, perfumery, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Apiaceae are rich sources of essential oils because of the wealth of secretory structures (ducts and vittae) they are endowed with. The Apiaceae essential oils are available on an industrial level because of the wide cultivation and disposability of the bulky material from which they are extracted as well as their relatively cheap price. In the fight against protozoal infections, essential oils may represent new therapeutic options. In the present work, we focused on a panel of nine Apiaceae species (Siler montamon, Sison amomum, Echinophora spi…

A Stereocontrolled Protocol to Highly Functionalized Fluorinated Scaffolds through a Fluoride Opening of Oxiranes

2016

A novel selective and substrate-dependent synthetic protocol has been developed towards the synthesis of various fluorine-containing, highly functionalized cycloalkane derivatives. The method involves the stereoselective epoxidation of some unsaturated cyclic beta-amino acid derivatives as model compounds, followed by a regioselective fluoride opening of oxiranes under various conditions with Deoxofluor and XtalFluor-E reagents, thereby offering an insight into this new epoxide opening methodology with fluoride.

Stereoselective Total Synthesis and Absolute Configuration of the Natural Decanolides (−)-Microcarpalide and (+)-Lethaloxin. Identity of (+)-Lethalox…

2005

[reaction: see text] Convergent, stereoselective syntheses of the pharmacologically active, naturally occurring lactones (-)-microcarpalide and (+)-lethaloxin have been achieved from the commercially available, chiral reagents (R)-glycidol, (S,S)-tartaric acid, and d-ribose as the starting materials. These syntheses have further served to establish the hitherto unknown absolute configuration of (+)-lethaloxin and to show its identity with (+)-pinolidoxin.
