Comparison of adjuvant and adjuvant-free murine experimental asthma models
2009
Introduction The most widely used protocol for the induction of experimental allergic airway inflammation in mice involves sensitization by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injections of the antigen ovalbumin (OVA) used in conjunction with the adjuvant aluminium hydroxide (alum). Although adjuvants are frequently used, there are questions regarding the necessity of alum for murine asthma studies due to the non-physiological nature of this chemical. Objective The objective of this study was to compare experimental asthma phenotypes between adjuvant and adjuvant-free protocols of murine allergic airway inflammation in an attempt to develop a standardized alternative to adjuvant use. Method An adjuvant-…
Dendritic cells lentivirally engineered to overexpress interleukin-10 inhibit contact hypersensitivity responses, despite their partial activation in…
2010
Background Dendritic cells (DCs) constitute an attractive target for immunotherapeutic approaches. Because DCs are largely refractory to transfection with plasmid DNA, several viral transduction protocols were established. The potential side-effects of lentiviral transduction on the phenotype and activation state of DCs left unstimulated after transduction have not been assessed. There is a need to analyse these parameters as a result of the requirement of using DCs with a low activation state for therapeutic strategies intended to induce tolerance. Methods Lentivirally-transduced bone marrow (BM)-derived DCs (LV-DCs) in comparison with mock-transduced (Mock-DCs) and untreated DCs were anal…
Pētījuma metodoloģija Tika analizēti dati pacientiem, kuriem veikta ALEX vai ALEX2 paneļa testēšana un iegūts sensitizāciju profils katrai suņa alergēna molekulai (Can f 1, Can f 2, Can f 3, Can f 4, Can f 5 un Can f 6). Iegūtie dati tika analizēti kopā ar pacienta datiem par astmu un alerģisko rinītu. Rezultāti Molekulārā sensitizācija pret Can f 1, Can f 2 un Can f 6 uzrādīja statistiski nozīmīgu ietekmi uz astmas risku, taču, kad tika izslēgta sensitizācija pret citu dzīvnieku epitēliju, tikai Can f 1 un Can f 2 uzrādīja statistiski nozīmīgu ietekmi. Arī poz…
Clinical course of rhinitis and changes in vivo and in vitro of allergic parameters in old parameters in old patients: a long-term follow-up study.

High training volume is associated with increased prevalence of non-allergic asthma in competitive cross-country skiers.
2022
BackgroundCross-country skiers have a high prevalence of asthma, but its phenotypes and association with success in competitions are not known.ObjectiveTo investigate, by means of a postal survey, the relative proportions of allergic and non-allergic asthma in competitive cross-country skiers compared with the general population, to study how performance level and training volume are related to asthma and its type and to assess the possible risk factors for allergic and non-allergic asthma in competitive skiers.MethodsAll Finnish cross-country skiers enrolled in the largest national competitions in winter 2019 (n=1282), and a random sample (n=1754) of the general population of the same age …
Omalizumab outcomes for up to 6 years in pediatric patients with severe persistent allergic asthma
2021
BACKGROUND: Various studies have assessed omalizumab outcomes in the clinical practice setting but follow-up and/or number of patients included were limited. We aim to describe the long-term outcomes of pediatric patients with severe persistent allergic asthma receiving omalizumab in the largest real-life cohort reported to date. METHODS: ANCHORS was a multicenter, observational, retrospective cohort study conducted in 25 Pediatric Allergy and Pulmonology units in Spain. We collected data of patients < 18 years and initiating omalizumab between 2006 and 2018, from the year prior to omalizumab initiation to discontinuation or last available follow-up. The primary outcome was the evolution of…
Analysis of a database to predict the result of allergy testing in vivo in patients with chronic nasal symptoms.
2014
Background This article uses the logistic regression model for diagnostic decision making in patients with chronic nasal symptoms. We studied the ability of the logistic regression model, obtained by the evaluation of a database, to detect patients with positive allergy skin-prick test (SPT) and patients with negative SPT. The model developed was validated using the data set obtained from another medical institution. Methods The analysis was performed using a database obtained from a questionnaire administered to the patients with nasal symptoms containing personal data, clinical data, and results of allergy testing (SPT). All variables found to be significantly different between patients w…
